Wayne basketball star Markus Crider, who pulled of his letter-of-intent Sunday at Providence after coach Keno Davis was fired, has gotten a lot of attention from a variety of schools but apparently isn’t being targeted by Dayton.

Warriors coach Travis Trice said the 6-foot-6 athletic small forward is being pursued by Northwestern, Penn State, VCU, Northern Illinois, Indiana State and Miami University, among others.

Crider had 24 points and was named the MVP of the Division I-II North-South all-star game put on by the Ohio High School Coaches Association on Sunday.

“We’ve had no contact from UD,” Trice said. “He has reopened his recruiting and has heard from several schools, but Dayton is not one of them.”

The Flyers have four scholarships available for the senior class, but coach Archie Miller has said he’ll only take a player he thinks can help the program, not make a desperation move just to fill the roster.

Crider is a three-star recruit, according to Rivals.com. Percy Gibson and LaDontae Henton of Michigan, who pulled out of their letters-of-intent with UD, also are three-star prospects.

Just to clarify the school is Huber Heights Wayne. They had one of the top HS QB in the nation this past year. Also, it says their coach is Travis Trice. Is this the same one from Princeton, IN that played at Butler a few decades ago?

Just looked it up and it is Travis Trice, from Princeton that is the Head Coach at Wayne. His son Travis Trice Jr aka T2, has signed to go to Michigan State next season and was the Gatorade player of the year in Ohio. Sounds like Markus was playing with some talent at Wayne.

I like the focus on finding a big athletic SGs and SFs, I know in the years to come we will have shooters EVERYWHERE but we need to be able to get points in the paint.

Nice to be in the mix. Recruits see who will be feeding them the ball for the next three years and also can see a legitament chance to go Dancing every year during their career.

I wasn't aware that we had a scholarship available? Or is this in case K.Smith doesn't get cleared by the NCAA?

Anyone remember how Trice ended up at Butler? I knew he played at West Laffy for a while... Couldn't hack the Big Ten? Believe he pre-dates the "dook of the midwest" period at buttler...

Rumor coming out of Ohio is that he may decide to go the Prep School route. I would assume that IF this is true, he wants a bigger fish to bite than what he has offers from so far and is willing to wait another year and start his recruiting all over again.
