Landing Logwood would be a way for us to salvage the 2014 recruiting class because so far the feedback hasn't been pretty. He and Nate Gehring, the 6'10" center from Iowa, would be a great start to 2014. Losing McIntosh, assuming that is ultimately what will happen, hurts but there's still solid, uncommitted talent out there like Logwood.

Best of luck to him, but I really don't know what the appeal of Auburn would be to anyone. Zero basketball tradition, zero basketball fan base, and an athletic department with all sorts of problems. Academic scandals, gambling/point shaving scandals, alleged paying of players (cam newton).

To each his own, but Auburn is one of those schools that I truly do not see the appeal in any way.

I think Jason said he saw him arguing with his AAU coach, so I didn't want him anyway.

I think he argued with his father more. Neither here nor there, but I agree that I wont lose sleep over missing out on this young man. Has a lot of growing up to do and gets by on athleticism more than skill. Would not have fit our system at all and probably would have been more of a hindrance than an asset.

I am fine with him not being a Sycamore, just don't understand Auburn as his destination. To each his own......

Word is that Logwood may re-open his recruitment if Tony Barbee is let go at Auburn after this season. Not sure if he will be fired or not, but his seat is certainly warm, and if they don't fire him this year, no reason to think they won't struggle just as bad next season and he won't be fired then.

It would be up to Auburn, not Logwood. He signed his LOI.

I believe the thinking on that issue has changed Jason. Players (frosh from high school) are usually released without a redshirt penalty when a coaching change is made. Would a new coach want a player who doesn't want to be there?

I'm not saying Auburn won't, I'm just saying it is up to them. He could always not report and prep school it for an extra year I suppose. Most schools do end up buckling after awhile though because they don't want the negative publicity on the recruiting trail.

I thought that if there was a coaching change after the NLI is signed that the student athletes had an automatic out.

I was going to state that because seems I read it somewhere too but not sure of the source? I think the "old school" idea that a player signs with the school not the coach was finally realized to be a futile attempt to keep them where they were.

If you just look at some of the appeals that player's come up with now even after a year or two at a school and get to transfer with no sitting out it becomes ridiculous. Example: Player "A" has someone in family sick and wants to be closer to home; then signs with some team even farther from his home. Player "B" gets homesick and wants closer to home and goes to a BCS school in his home area; Rayvonte Rice from Drake to Illinois falls in that category.

Nope. This is the exact verbiage from a NLI:

Coaching Changes. I understand I have signed this NLI with the institution and not for a particular sport or coach. If a coach leaves the institution or the sports program (e.g., not retained, resigns), I remain bound by the provisions of this NLI. I understand it is not uncommon for a coach to leave his or her coaching position.

Classic case of a kid going for the biggest name and ending up in the wrong spot. Happens 100's of times a year. Hopefully he makes a better choice second time around, but this late in the summer he will have limited options.
