Eased up on the schedule a bit, didn't he? Probably not a bad idea, getting beaten so often early cost our guys a lot of confidence last season...

Hoping for a good 2009 season!

My son is a new Freshman pitcher this year for ISU, Cordell Greene, who is very excited about this coming season. He says that fall ball sure showed alot of talent on the team. Unfortunately I live in Minnesota so I won't get to see many of the games. :sycamores:

Glad to have him on the team. Would be nice to see the baseball team have a nice season to wash away the nasty taste our football and men's basketball teams have left us with.

Again, Coach Meggs has set a couple weeks in the deep South which should act as a "Spring Training" of sort. It beats playing "short toss" in the basement of the Arena.

Kentucky has a FINE baseball program, as most SEC schools do. I agree re: a "lighter schedule"...those Mississippi St. & Mizzou squads can easily sap your spirit.

ISU Home Game - Internet Broadcasting

Can anyone tell me if Indiana State University broadcasts their home baseball games over the internet? I see that for the spring broadcasting schedule they have Basketball games but see no reference of baseball.

Don't think they take a radio team on the road much. However, I had good luck last season by searching thru google for the teams they were playing particularly for the trips to the Carolina's, Arizona, etc. Got a "homer's" perspective most of the time but usually had a good radio on the computer connection and live stats, etc. Hope your son enjoys his time as a Sycamore!

This is great advice. Thank you very much. I know Cordell is VERY excited about the season starting up and has been throwing full bullpens at least once a week during their Holiday break. Keeping our fingers crossed the whole team has an above average season. :)

I had the same question about radio broadcasts. Too bad ISU doesn't have their own coverage.

It is a shame the ISU Baseball team has followed the trend of the Basketball team. We haven't had a good team since Stetter, Hall, Van Ater, Purdom, and Egli roamed on Sycamore Field. I would love to see them win, but it doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon!

Not knowing much about baseball, I am optimistic that Meggs will get the program going. I think he's a good judge of playing talent (perhaps not of coaching talent - see the pitching coach last year and our pathetic ERA) and has recruited what are supposed to be very good ball players. I think last season he over-scheduled and made the non-con schedule so tough that the players confidence plummeted after getting beaten again and again, albeit to really, really good teams.

I gotta think that championship coaches know how to win championships, regardless of the level. Perhaps this baseball season will prove me right!!!

Shouldn't we wait and see how this springs season goes before you post your disappointment with the team? Just saying.... I have hopes and I know my son does as well.

Hope that wasn't directed at me. I haven't posted anything about disappointment with the baseball team...:eek7:

Thanks Beav89, you are correct. I was responding to LightsOut on the previous page. Coach Meggs was with Chico State for 12 years (i think) and it took a little bit of time to pull that program up to the winning level it was when he left there. I'm hoping Coach Meggs can do the same with ISU. We have to keep in mind that it's easy to recruit kids to California to play ball but recruiting to the MidWest is a challenge to say the least so Meggs has had his work cut out for him. I know that our son was looking at other colleges in the sun belt area before deciding on ISU, and that was solely because of Coach Meggs.

So I say GO SYCAMORES!!! :sycamores: :sycamores:

I am not trying to be negative, I have been to probably more ISU baseball games than most everyone, I am just skeptical of the pitching staff. I think offensively between Ciolli and Shoemaker, we have two All-MVC players. I just don't know if we can get anyone out. There might be alot of 13-11 conference games. I hope they win and I will be at most games, I just think the pitching needs to get much better.

Thanks Lights Out for explaining your position. From a parent of an ISU pitcher I too was (and are) skeptical about not having a full-time, seasoned pitching coach for the guys to learn from. I saw my son pitch during the christmas break and I must admit it was impressive. ISU so far has made alot of changes to his form and his accuracy is pretty spot on. Now, Cordell has yet to compete at this level so only time on the field will tell us if it is working. I'm glad you can go to the games, we live in Minneapolis and I'm super bummed that ISU does not broadcast the baseball games for us to watch on the Internet. Since our son is a Freshman I don't think he will travel much with the team which means mid week games to start. Thanks again!

ISU has video for most home games and it seems that the radio broadcasts start after basketball is over. It isn't the best quality(its students on the university station) but you can listen. Also, I listened to a lot of games last year on the other schools broadcast.

SkinnyLu,

Welcome to the Sycamore family!

Don't take offense to anything negative that is written on here. Obviously, we are all on here because we REALLY care about ISU sports! We try to be as positive as possible. However, if your son has a bad outing, I will call him a BUM! Haha, just kidding.

I have actually seen your son throw. I expect big things out of him. He is tall and long and I think he is going to have a very good career. Our pitching staff has been down the last couple of years. Coach Warn did not leave Coach Meggs any pitching. It was sad to watch Adam Lindsey have to throw 3 innings everyday during Meggs first year. Adam was good, but he was all we had out of the pen. I was actually extremely excited when I heard Cordell was coming here instead of Ark-PB.

As far as broadcasts........ There are several StatTracker websites where you can follow the play-by-play action. I had a lot of success last year by accessing the opposing teams radio station. It takes some research to find the links, but it's worth it.

I'm excited to watch your son pitch!

Again, Welcome to the Sycamore Family!

Hi SydCamore and thank you for the official welcome. I am new to the messages boards and am still learning how things work (alas my error in not quoting earlier)

Its been a very positive fall training session and I am looking forward to seeing what this season holds for ISU Baseball. I also know that Cordell made one of the best choices of his life by selecting ISU so, GO SYCAMORES!!

I saw on the school website that 23 players on the baseball team received a 3.0 GPA (or better) for the 1st Semester of school. That is so great. Student Athletes, what a concept. :)

Thanks again
SkinnyLu
