Isn't he part of THE PARTY of de-regulation??
Maybe so. But who on this board likes what is going on. Sometimes congress can actually pass legislation that can improve things instead of making thing worse. I do not see what purpose the NCAA serves other than to schedule and organize tournaments. The majority of Division One schools will face declining attendance, alumni support, and overall fan interest if something is not done. Good for Senator Cruz. Any required reforms or legislation would be an improvement over what is going on now.

Remember these few points:

1) The NCAA was established to KEEP Congress from "getting involved" in 1906.

2) That collective 535-member ass clown show has PLENTY of Constitutional duties to fulfill BUT...

2a) They're going to "solve" an issue that is outside their lane??

3) If that collective 535-member ass clown show WANTED to "solve" these problems, why didn't they get involved a couple of decades ago to PREVENT the debacle that is collegiate sports today.

Because democrats were in power. You are such a Karen

Didn't Commiefornia basically create this NIL mess in the first place?

For fuck sakes... this ENTIRE mess is because EA Sports and the NCAA were making a ton of cash using the name, image and likeness of former & current(?) players.

Ed O'Bannon, former UCLA All-American, NCAA champion filed a class action lawsuit and won.

It’s nice to know that with our nations debt at 115% of gdp, over 20 trillion dollars, almost none of the 12 appropriation bills getting passed since around the late 1990s, Medicare and SS going broke with no plans to fix either and about ten percent of our taxes going to just pay the interest on the debt, that all those things can come second to fixing college sports.

I will sleep better knowing that Ted Cruze is on the case.

Ignore the hard things, and focus on the trivial. That’s how you stay in office.

I think the current debt is around $37 Trillion, at least officially... The true debt is several trillion more and growing

I know this sounds nice, but there are tons of different committees. Cruz's committee that will deal with this is the Commerce committee.

As for the debt, that is handled under the Senate Budget Committee. That is currently chaired by Democratic Senator Whitehouse out of Rhode Island. He also sits on the Finance committee.

Good Lord it’s even worse than I thought.

And I already thought it was pretty bad.

It's infinitely worse than that. Unfunded liabilities. Estimates are usually in the $150-170 trillion range.

Yes you’re saying that congress should be able to do two things at once. Should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. The problem is they won’t. And in this case they shouldn’t try. College sports has changed, so what? Don’t like it, find a new hobby. And when you do and college sports begins to see empty seats and few eyes on their product they will look to change. This is a waste of time, but since actual work in congress that is important and necessary is boring, they skip it and do things that are more exciting. At the end of the day of college football blows itself up I don’t really care. I find a new hobby. But if the government can’t provide basic services or complete it’s mandated tasks that is a little bit more of a concern for me.

Guess I see it differently.

The issue is many of the schools get state and federal government funding. Much of that funding then gets diverted to athletics and now the cost of that is going up dramatically, especially if they are deemed employees. There needs to be some sort of agreed to framework or this shit is going to explode and it will take everything with it, not just foosball.

Federal Student Financial Aid may trickle back to athletics but show me the $$$ trail of say a Georgia Tech receiving $$$ via a Defense Department research grant for new cyber security capabilities... I'm not buying an argument from you on that topic

In other news, Bears lead Packers at the half

The federal student financial aid making its way to athletics via student fees is enough considering most programs outside of the top are subsidized by it at a 40-80% rate.

Lets not give them more ideas on the second one.
