[February 25, 2025] Indiana State (13-16) at Murray State (14-15)

WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

For anyone going to STL/still cares, with tonight's result....

A Valpo loss vs Bradley tomorrow pretty much ensures 10th seed at worst for Arch Madness. (Valpo could still tie us on conference record on Sunday, but we are 20 spots ahead in the NET which would be pretty tough to overcome.)

If we lose then on Sunday, we are 10th.

A win and we jump SIU (1-0 on the season) and go to 9th.

An Evansville loss tomorrow vs Drake and Sunday vs the Redbirds and we win and we jump to 8th (split the season and ahead of them in the NET).

Most Valley fans will say we’re right back where we should be.

Who cares what anyone else says?? What does that have to do with anything… After what this program has accomplished you still worried about what anyone thinks of this program.

Here is what I know - and don’t care about the rest of the bum ass one bid Valley thinks. We have the best venue in the conference. We have one of the most convenient/accessible downtown game day locations in the MVC. We have a top 3 fan base in attendance. Our current coach got put in a tough spot based on the timeline last year and he’s done the best he can with what he had to work with.

The last - the very last thing I care about is what other MoVal fans think of this program and where we belong.

Most Valley fans will say we’re right back where we should be. I know I’m not gonna put up with mediocre basketball for years like we did before the thumb. We won’t ever come up with the $$$ to buy out a coach, so if next year doesn’t pan out, I just might have to give up. Sad. But we are back where we (I guess?) belong…
I will NEVER give up.

I'm more disappointed in the state of college basketball than I am with this team. College sports are broken and no fix in site.
For sure. I probably watch too much college basketball and I still enjoy it, but the system is so fucked. We’re not the only ones that lost their whole team, it’s just personal for us. Most of the P5 teams go through the same shit expect maybe Duke and UCONN. After Seton Hall finished us off, they watched Dre Davis go to Ole Miss and Richmond go to conference rival St. John’s. Every game you watch, it’s this guy transfered from blank school.

I’m encouraged that we can most likely provide coach with at least $300k annually and it’s up to him to fill the roster and make it work. I think that’s a decent enough pool for him to compete near the top of the Valley. It’s just a new world to cheer in, but I’m not walking away.

MURRAY, Ky. – Indiana State men's basketball fell to Murray State on Tuesday night, 85-75, despite trailing by only four points with less than 4:30 to play in the game. The Sycamores move to 13-17, 7-12 MVC while Murray State improved to 15-15, 9-10 MVC.

I think I witnessed 18 straight losing seasons. No reason to quit on the team after what would have been a good year during those times.

I'm certainly not walking away. I've been here through a lot worse seasons than this one. It's just hard to know what a realistic outlook is as a diehard fan in this new world. I know we don't have funding to keep players the caliber of what we had last year and Teel this year. I guess you just hope that you can strike gold in players who blossom while with your team and can do something special before they move on. I hate that perspective, but it appears to be our reality.

I can’t watch another team shoot 40+ free throws again without a coach losing his absolute mind and being thrown out of the game. That’s the only thing that woulda made me feel okay about it - the officiating the last two games has played a very decisive role in the outcomes of the games. That’s what I don’t want to watch anymore…

We had 58fg attempts and only shot 4 more 3’s than they did - it’s not as if we were just settling for 3’s. We were attacking the rim and touching paint and the game was simply being officiated differently on each side of the floor. It’s inexcusable.

They had zero second half assists and continued to pull away - it’s unheard of, the only explanation is they constantly got to the free throws line.

I absolutely agree, yet not a single mention about it being from HCMG. He talked about us fouling too much, but we should have went to the line at least 10 more times, conservatively, if we got the same type of whistle. I get you don't want to be known for bitching and whining, but sometimes you need to speak the truth, too.

I'm not going to go back and look but when we got our biggest lead of 8 and then they went on their run and gained the lead I'm pretty sure like 12 of their 16 points during that time came from the stripe. It was the soul reason they even got back in it, killed our momentum and that carried them the rest of the way. Frustrating. Surely the basketball Gods will be with us in STL. We haven't had much go our way in anything since April 4th with 2:50 left in a basketball game.

Selfishly kind of hoping we lose against SIU. I have a friend flying in for the tournament, but his flight lands at 1:00 on Thursday, so if we play at noon he won't get to see us play (possibly at all).

Strongly agree.

I'll add that with the portal and NIL I just don't feel the need to invest in a 30 game season anymore, when I can just show up to St Louis and watch the entire season unfold in 4 days. Most of these guys on the team won't be here for more than 1 or 2 years going forward before or after they jump ship, since it works both ways.

Here's my current grading scale for the season. Add a + if you earn a bye.
Lose on Thursday= F
Lose on Friday= D
Lose on Saturday= C
Lose on Sunday= B
Win on Sunday= A

It was game day and I had to wonder...

Which fan base is more frustrated by their team, Sycamores or Racers? Pick 'em.
We beat em by 10 in December, can we do it again? Negative.
Or is this a game that we lose by 20+ thereby making us that much more frustrated? Not exactly.
Paging Dr. Wagner, are you ready to shoot 18 threes this game? Shot six.
Paging Dr. Wagner, are you ready to make 9 threes this game? Made zero.
Samage Teel Esq, are you ready to dish 11 assists this game? Five.
Samage Teel Esq, are you ready to score way more than 2 points this game? 13.
Does Vorst get the start again? No.
Does Marcus see the court ever again? Yes.
Can Doughty improve on his 90% FT percentage? Yes, 1-1.
Can JD improve on his 59.1% FG percentage? How about his 37.5% 3pt percentage? Yes, 1-2.
What's it gonna take to get this road dub? Better rebounding.

Point of clarification: I am not giving up on this team, or this program. I just cannot fathom going back to where .500 is a good season. We've got to capitalize on the last couple of years before it all goes poof. Again. That's all I was really saying. This year's team has lived up to (low) expectations. Next season we have to get up off the mat. No excuses.
