Read this. Then kindly refrain from ever criticizing the guy again as it relates to his attempts to make Terre Haute a better place and maybe make some money along the way - because you know God forbid he want any return on his investment…

Perhaps you need to be educated on how investments are supposed to work. Sometimes you make money and sometimes you lose money when you invest in a free market capitalist system. Expecting taxpayers to fund your investments is called crony capitalism. Learn the difference and you'll understand why some of us don't support every single project Gibson has his hands involved in.

I’m probably not the one that needs educated here…

You watch too much TV. Do me a favor and go through each project individually and tell me how many of those projects are tax payer funded projects. I’ll wait.

And honestly… Let’s just assume you’re spot on and 100% correct which you almost never are. If that was indeed the case who gives a rip because without him you’d have literally NONE of those things. This would be just another rotting small town - we are lucky to have what we have here and without GG we wouldn’t have any of it. It’s not like he picked a spot on a map and said “you know I can go into this free market and be the kingpin and do anything I want to make money and have the residents pay for it”. He’s literally from here - he could do this in any community and he’s deciding to invest here in TH.

taxpayer money aside, is it ok to go in to any investment expecting it will make money, knowing that it might not? I mean going into something with no clue if it will work would probably be pretty ridiculous right? Is it bad when the investment works out, sometimes better than expected?

The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the convention center. He pushed hard for it, they raised the restaurant tax in VC to pay for it, and then they stuck the thing on his land and pay him rent. That's the kind of b.s. that people like me get sick of.

I'm not saying Gibson hasn't ever done anything good for the community, because I'm sure he has done plenty, but he shouldn't be getting these sugary taxpayer funded deals that wildly favor him either.

Do they call what SF'96 has for Greg envy or jealousy or both?

Neither. They call it ignorant.

Perspective is really important here... 1% that is the Food and Beverage Tax that was voted on by county commissioners - the same % as any other county/city in Indiana (save for Marion Co 2%) that has a Food and Beverage Tax. Most counties worth a shit - have had a Food and Beverage Tax in place for YEARS!!! Westfield and Zionsville since 05', Allen County since 86', Cloverdale since 13' I could keep going but I will spare you. https://www.in.gov/dor/business-tax/food-and-beverage-tax/ Vigo Co. is one of the most recent to implement such a tax. Improving our community comes at a cost that some are unwilling to pay... They say they want a better community - they are the first to go on social media and complain every time the only new jobs we get are restaurant jobs - then when they try and do something creative to fund community changing projects - they bitch about having to help pay for it.

That is what "people like" 96' get sick of - they get sick of a city that only has restaurant jobs but when they are asked to step up and do something to bring real jobs - they ALWAYS complain and find an excuse.

And if Greg Gibson didn't use it to his advantage somebody else would, and there is a list of people who do the same thing he does and have been quietly doing this same thing for many years, the difference is Gibson is a big name in TH and he deals in higher than normal projects like the convention center and Casino. Greg is a good business man( and his father was a better one). Large business isn't roses and puppies, it is a cut throat world based on relationship selling not product selling where you eat of be eaten. Why do you think the same engineering firms, General Contractors, Electrical Contractors, etc are selected over and over for projects. Its the relationship the top rung of the chain has with the owner, this case Greg has with the city. No foul just a fact of life in business and if you are in this business you start at the bottom and hope you can latch on to the next higher and work your way up. Greg just happens to be the top rung of this chain.

Definitely not envious or jealous; I'm doing perfectly fine in life. I just don't appreciate my money being used to pay him rent money for his ideas. I don't care if it's 1%, 2%, or 25%; it should be 0%.
If he was responsible for us getting an on-campus, $50M+ football stadium, I bet you wouldn’t object if he made 1% on the deal.

I G N O R A N T!

I will not pay 1% in taxes for a guy to pay $100 million (hypothetical #’s) to invest in “my” community because he should pay for it all himself and receive no incentive for investing in said shit hole.

The stuff you see on this forum from some of these people is the low level IQ shit. It can’t be helped.

Is this where you mention Sam Mervis again? It's like you never shut up talking about him for what, three years now. I mean how many childish and bullying type posts have you made about him? Like ten or twelve, I lost count. Talk about stupid low level IQ shit posting.

How much money did he actually invest into the convention center? The entire project was ~$30M and if they are charging a 1% tax to try to pay for it, then my guess is that he doesn't have very much invested into it other than his time he spent campaigning for it.

His reward for a useless overly expensive taxpayer funded project we didn't need was taxpayer funded rent money. I'm glad we spent all that money so that we could have class reunions, local bank meetings, and fire department meetings.

Maybe he could have spent that money like you had the brilliant idea in the football stadium thread to add 6000 new seats on the visitors side of the football stadium (that draws less than 5000 total fans per game) so as you stated "it will look neat". Sarcasm intended! I won't even get into your twisted comments about a cat torturing recruit being a good guy who needs a pass for torturing multiple cats to death. Did you drink from the Wabash and eat lead paint chips as a kid??????? Gibson is growing Terre Haute in positive ways and taking the anti- progress haters like you kicking and screaming with him. I am sorry you have to pay a penny more per dollar you spend on your pork rinds and scratch off lottery tickets each week, but that sir is a very cheap price for progress compared to what the rest of the state pays for progress.

We should put up some kind of seating on the north side of the stadium. Our stadium is the laughing stock of the MVFC. It shows a lack of commitment to the sport which in turn hurts recruiting.

I actually do think Wallace is a good guy who did something really stupid with his friends when he was a teenager. I know this drives some of you crazy, but I still would have still recruited him.

Did you even read the awesome list of events they're having at the convention center this summer? Class reunions and firefighter banquets. I guess wasting tens of millions for that is progress in Terredice.

Put up seating so it can sit empty or 5% filled? We can't come close to filling the one side of the stadium we've got.
