Women's basketball raised just $900? Is there a reasonable explanation for that?

Probably because what’s been discussed here.

I'm guessing because there are zero players on the roster and the program is in shambles?....? Still would have thought they would raise more. But perhaps people are silently making a loud point here?...I don't know.

Basketball has raised around $700k in NIL over the last 2.5 years or so… Once you factor in that investment it’s quite clear what has happened.

Not to discount the football fund raising effort, we’ve said on here for the last 15 years football alums need to put up or shut up. So good to see some of them stepping up.

But the basketball donor stuff is quite easy to understand - people are investing in NIL.
That’s amazing number. This year thus far, football is at 15k.

That is my stance. I've committed to $100/month for basketball via Crossroad of Champions.

School gets $0 from here on out, especially since I don't agree with the direction the athletics department is going. They've shown they aren't paying attention to today's college athletics landscape nor the school, alum, and Terre Haute preferences and demographics therefore I cannot in good conscious give them money to waste. If anyone says "well you can just give directly to basketball" -- all that means is they can get to whatever budget there through donations and then will subvert the student fees, organizational spending, and other moneys elsewhere. I'd still be enabling bad behavior.

That’s a very nice amount. Would you agree if ISU raised 1 million in NIL, landed quality players, had a great year, and those players bolted for more money! Are you ??? Is it worth it?

No, it's not worth it. Unfortunately, the inmates now run the asylum due to the the coward school presidents and athletic directors giving the power conferences autonomy over a decade ago. Ever since, every move that has been made has been to maximize their revenues at the expense of everyone else and it has now even gotten away from them. See the Tennessee QB situation and the social media outcry about that.

However, you either participate or you fall even farther behind. The only way it becomes "worth it" is if you have sustained success and become a perennial NCAA tournament team that wins at least a couple games so you can stack tournament units to help offset. Even just being a winning program doesn't matter anymore because kids are leaving good situations in winning programs for payola. But it helps if you can sell through more tickets, concessions, merch, etc.

It's nothing we haven't talked about for a decade now and we continue to toil around in the muck and the mire of mediocrity.

Ok, we have been accepted this mistake that Prettyman told us what would happen.
Just like I tell my Fucked Up fraternity brothers who donate to the fraternity and not the university. “You Dint’t Enroll At Indiana State To Join A Fraternity”
You say no more money to ISU! I say, money to players will destroy our university, and the athletics we all follow!

The amount raised is amazing considering the current roller coaster in the stock market. What is sad is that we have more donors than ever before, but still did not reach 2,000. That means a lot of alums do not give even $5

What do you attribute this too? I have my thoughts - but I’m curious as to what you think?

In my 50+ years of affiliation with ISU, I would have to say that a major culprit is that the university has never done anything, at least that I've seen, to instill and to foster pride in the institution. ISU has always been seen as the "school of last resort," to many students. Nothing in ISU's culture (if there is such a thing) talks about being proud of the institution, being loyal to the institution, giving back to the institution. Even to the lyrics of our school song and alma mater, neither of which mention anything about pride and loyalty. I listen to the words of other schools' songs, and they are frequently focused on pride and loyalty. And that shows up in the liklihood of alumni to be there when the school needs something ($$$).

A quick sampling of lyrics from other schools:

And our hearts forever
Praise thee, XXXXXXX
And our hearts forever
Love thee XXXXXX

XXXXXX, our Alma Mater
Thy glorious name we praise
All thy loyal sons and daughters
A joyous song shall raise

Glory hast thou, might and power; proud the halls of XXXXXXX.
Deeds that live in song and story, loyal sons and daughters true.

I know these are seemingly trivial matters, but it points to a larger issue with culture at ISU. We were never taught to give back to the school. We were never taught to love the school and be proud of the school. For some of us, that grew organically. But for the students/alumni at large, having a culture that is taught that loyalty, love, and pride in the school is not optional, creates those loyal givers. ISU has never done that.

Just my two cents. I could be all wet, too...

So... Several paragraphs suggesting we change the fight song. This isn't the reason I envisioned, but it's a reason and one that you make a compelling case for.

But I understand the point you are trying to make. Instilling pride in students has certainly been an issue over the years - you see pockets of pride, I think the school of business has done a pretty good job facilitating that over the last several years. But I think that engagement with students from the moment they step on campus to the moment they leave - something is just off. I don't think it's for lack of effort - they've tried a lot of different things over the years.

I was about to question your reading comprehension... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

But you're right - the school song is merely a symptom, not a cause of the culture issue. I could have also used the propensity of students to yell "I S U - I Screwed Up!" at tour groups I was taking around campus while I was a student. But I like the song aspect of the issue more...🎼:ROFLMAO:🎼
