Have we retired our last jersey? YES unless the whole environment changes (and big money will not allow that to happen). The best we can hope for as ISU fans now is moderate success because if it's like this year, the vultures will swoop in and there will be nothing left once again.

Again, the answer should be NO. Look at the accomplishments of the players who's ## was retired and tell me how Butch Wade is NOT worthy?

Scrubbing some old media guides from that era... Wade is #7 all-time scorer in ICC history - when he graduated, he was #3.

I don't think he led that conf in scoring but he may have, certainly one of the leading scorers annually.
**UPDATE** #2 (27.3 ppg) as a Soph (behind the Puce Deuce legend Larry Humes 32.5 ppg);
#3 as a Junior (20.7 ppg)- behind Larry Humes (31.0 ppg) Jerry Newsom (26.6 ppg)

Ok, I was referring to future/current players. If they turn out to be good enough to have their jersey retired, they won't stay at ISU long enough for it to happen. Current players, please prove me wrong.

Saw several comments talking about retiring Ju's jersey if he stays. While that may be hyperbole, the comments do raise a good topic for discussion.

With the JSW ceremony, is it possible that we have retired our last jersey? With there now being zero restrictions with regards to transferring, the likelihood of having a three or four year starter that is a standout performer will be minute. With that, the ability to amass any significant statistical volume to warrant having your jersey hung in the rafters is also likely out the door. The last class of guys that racked up significant numbers are the early 2000's guys, Moss, JO13, BS4, and JB2.

We may never see the likes of that again and I'm dead set on you having to have been here at least three years to even get considered. Thoughts?

The fact is, the portal, NIL and the quad ranking system make it almost impossible to be a loyal college hoops fan. It has absolutely had the adverse affect than what was intended. I’m not sure the NCAA even cares to address the issues associated. Either way, this model can’t be sustainable.

You both know what I meant.

I did and I still disagree -- there are players in ISU's history who have earned the honor of jersey retirement; it's a short list and virtually every possible candidate has been mentioned in past posts.

Will there be a FUTURE ISU player? Not likely under the current "system," -- catch lightning in the bottle (again) and maybe a future Tree will achieve the heights to be honored -- not holding my breath

Two years removed from when I posted this. Anyone change their opinion? Should we honor the last greats we’ll likely ever have now that you know what the landscape is?
