Hello Sycamore fans,
Montana alum here. Just wanted to say hello and learn about your team. Anything you would like to share or maybe questions you have about the Griz. I won't be able to make it to the game but will be watching.
Best to you and your team!
I can tell you a lot about Terre Haute, locally known as Terredice, the lovely city that ISU resides in.

First off Terre Haute is one of the cleanest cities in the entire country. It is illegal to spit on the side walks and throwing your trash in an alley is absolutely frowned upon. We also boast one of the cleanest rivers in the entire Midwest, called the Wabash River, where lots of folks enjoy the fishing; and let me tell ya, there's nothing more tasty than a Wabash River Catfish.

Secondly, I think you Montana folk might enjoy this one. We have a small mountain range in the southern end of our county, near a small town called Pimento, where we enjoy skiing during the winter months. We call it "Pimento Peaks".

The third great thing is that we are a very safe community. We rarely ever have incidents here and the drug problem is basically non-existant.

The fourth and final great thing is that we have an awesome transportation system here. No potholes whatsoever and I-70 between TH and Indianapolis is one of the best stretches of interstate highway in the country. You can also fly to Terre Haute through our first class International Airport on the east side of town. We're also in the process of building a casino next to it so all of the incoming travelers can spend their vacation funds here. We'll be the Midwest's mini Vegas in no time, just without the hookers.

Hey guys, I know I mentioned it right after it occurred, but I want to express my deep sorrow for the losses your program (and university) suffered. As I said then, it makes a football game seem rather meaningless. Prayers that the loved ones of all involved are doing as well as could be expected.

Looking forward to Saturday. We had planned on making the trip, but we're headed to Missoula (from Seattle) next weekend for homecoming, and it just got a little too crazy to try and squeeze both trips in. I've spent a little time in Terre Haute, and think it's a very cool city.

As for the game, you'd have to think Montana is the favorite, but anything can happen, particulary in road games. The Griz D has been dominant, but the offense was up and down last week and doesn't seem to have found it's rythm yet.

Please feel free to jump on over to egriz.com to talk some football prior to Saturday. We ...err most of us... treat visitors well!

if you think skiing in pimento is great -- the Alps or Rockies must be daunting... though NOTHING is better than Paoli!

Observations from an unqualified commentator.

On the defensive side, , I actually believe we show some promise. But, that said, we have problems controlling effective offenses for four quarters. Too many possessions start with great field position for the opponent because of ineffective offense. Very good FCS teams last season took advantage of the ISU ineffective offense and turnovers to put up 40+. This year it is too early to tell and Purdue is such an imposing offensive machine that our inability to stop it's offense is understandable.
The fundamental problem that ISU faces is that so far Juco xfer qb Screws has not been effective more than say 8 yards downfield. This, combined with a huge but slow-footed offensive line leads to a bogged down running game. ISU doesn't have an RPO capable offense so it seems limited in its ability to force instant reactions by defenders.

I think your observations about ISU's in state recruiting are relevant. The staff is having some success getting #2-4 player from many of the top programs in Indiana. I personally like this trend. It probably helps that our head coach is the son of the most successful and most highly respected coach at IU in the past 50+ years. We also have a coaching staff with strong resumes.
The biggest issues at ISU are "catch 22" type.
Our stadium is old, our crowds are small, the ability to get top targets to sign is inhibited by these factors, the schedule is dominated by very high level FCS opponents, etc. The result is a repeated struggle to get above 0.500.

Of course, in today's world use of the transfer portal is imperative and several new contributors arrived that way. It is too soon to evaluate the success.

On a historical note, I lived in Richmond, Va. For 8 years and was a Richmond Spider season ticket holder. I attended the 2008 NCAA DIV 1 National Championship game between Richmond and Montana. My daughter who was a student at Notre Dame and in the band attended the game with me in Chattanooga.
That was a great day to be a Spiders fan.
Early in the game UR had a 3rd and 17 on about the Montana 40. QB Eric Ward scrambled 19 yards and bowled over a defensive back to get a first down. She looked at me and said, "I have never seen our quarterback do that."
People just have no idea how great top level FCS football is.
Crazy. I'm a huge Irish fan. Actually had tickets to the Stanford game but had to sell them. Awesome your daughter went to school there, congrats.
I was also at the Richmond game. Kept getting weird looks from their fans as I was congratulating their fans on the way out.

Here's a question for the Montana fans. When does the weather start to get dicey out there (specifically mountain passes)? I've been thinking about maybe driving to the return game in Missoula in 2025, but I don't wan't to get stuck out there or have to re-learn how to use snow chains. For those that don't know Montana has one of the most beautiful stadiums in all of Division 1, so I wouldn't mind checking it out and taking sort of a mini vacation out there.
When is the return game? I live up in the GNP area. Passes all around Montana can possibly start to see snow by late September. GNP specially starts to close on the West side in the next few weeks and the only way to Logan Pass would be through the east side of the park. That area requires another pass to access and is usually pretty windy. There is also very limited services that time of year, up there. Feel free to send me a message if you want to talk more.

Excellent point CWG, I should've started off by including my condolences to the ISU family as well. Very tragic. So sorry to have read about that and the loss.

Traveling is my favorite thing to do and there's a good chance I'll probably make it to Glacier before the 2025 game. Next summer my friend and I are planning (I'm going regardless lol) on driving to Crater Lake in Oregon. I've actually been to all of the lower 48, but going to more national parks is definitely a priority of mine.

Since you live up by GNP I'll take any suggestions you have and look into them. The thing I'm most into is nature; particularly lakes, mountains, canyons, and waterfalls. Tourist traps and city life have never been my thing.

Funny you would mention Pimento Peaks! I just happened to come across my souvenir photo from our last trip. The mountain is so majestic.

I've had quite a few laughs! You guys are awesome. Love the souvenir photo.
Is there a weekly online press conference with your coach or any online newspapers you might point me to? I like to read up on your team some more.
Also, if you get the chance, please make it out for the return game. Wear your colors proudly and you most likely won't pay for a single beer, all weekend.
