there is a lot.

1. For some reason folks from Montana, South Dakota, and North Dakota always fight this reason and name some d3 school as their "fan" competition. But there is WWWAAAAYYYY to much competition in not only football but other sports in the midwest. We have ND, IU, PU, Ball State as in state competition, along with any school from Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio competing for regional fans. I don't know the exact number of D1 football teams we are within a 1 state radius but i'm sure it's a lot; including some real blue bloods. Oh, not to mention there are a handful of NFL teams we are competing with.

2. Have you seen our stadium?

3. Terre Haute/Indiana isn't really known for football. Now, Payton Manning and the immergence of Indianapolis being a hotbed for talent has helped changed that the last 20 years. But historically it's not what we are known for. Top end talent goes anywhere they want, the best of the rest will go to IU or Purdue (or big 10 schools), then the rest of the D1 caliber guys go to Ball State (or MAC school), That doesn't leave much for us unless some real star slips through cracks which is real hard these days with all the exposure.

4. We have no history. It's tough to build a fanbase or program these days when you have no reason to be a fan.

5. Midwesterners have to be reminded FCS is D1

6. Playing in the MVFC is tough for a school like us. We are probably a +.500 ball club year in and year out in any other FCS conference outside of the Big Sky. But to be the top of the MVFC you have to be at the top of the FCS which takes a borderline top 50 team in all of college football. When you have NO chance of winning or competing for a championship it's hard to drum up interest.

7. Memorial Stadium

8. Years of neglect of stadium and program

You forgot that, whether anyone likes to be honest with themselves or not, nobody cares about FCS football. That is a MONSTER hurdle with students and fans. Hell, Hoop got questioned at the Purdue game if we were D1.

Ummm. Ouch.

God, sorry for ripping the bandaid off. Is there anything good to ISU, schoolwise then. Praying I don't regret that question too.

ISU is a great school. Our issues with football are not necessarily a reflection of anything else. Our football program has been in the crapper for a long, long time.

We’d kick your ass in basketball, respectfully speaking.

Same song, different verse
A little bit louder
A little bit worse

Yeah, spare me Coach. You've had 5 seasons to establish something that looks like a functioning offense and have been unable to do it. This is Year 6 of the Mallory Experiment and we've had 16 offensive first downs in two games. For those playing at home, that's 80 yards per game AKA not enough to score one fucking TD. If UNA didn't shit down their leg and snap the ball 40 yards over their QB's head, you'd be sitting at 0-2 heading into this boat race we're likely to see.

And. We. Extended. Him.

I know people have said Lou West and that was the wrong comparison. This is like Tim McGuire all over again. Defensive coordinator that got the top job and then just did nothing with the offense. Remember watching us pound the ball over and over and over for 3 yards because that was the way he learnt it at ole Nebraska.

At least with those other guys, we had the same crap facilities and didn't fund the program so they had legit excuses for not being able to recruit and develop talent.

I'm going because I want to see Montana in their only appearance they will ever have in Terre Haute. You all should win going away, by 40+
Same here. I've had this one circled as a must go since it was announced. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm even considering making the return trip in 2025. I'd love to catch a game in Missoula and Montana is just a cool state in general.

I'd love to go in 2025 too if I'm living back out that way, I haven't been to Missoula since 1997.

Never been to Missoula but I have been to Columbus, Parke City, Laurel, Billings, Miles City, Glasgow and a couple trips up hwy 212 thru Red Lodge going to Yellowstone.

Found a pack of Grizz fans way out yonder at Green Acres last night. They scattered before I had a chance to engage them.
