The Wade Level
Indiana State University men's assistant basketball coach Stan Gouard was recently quoted in a 'Sports Illustrated' article profiling the success of Tennessee men's coach Bruce Pearl.

It seems that Gouard, a native of Danville, Ill., was one of Pearl's first recruits after he became coach at the University of Southern Indiana in 1992, two years after Pearl was ostracized in the coaching community for secretly recording a conversation where a possible Iowa recruit alleged that he was offered money and a car to attend Illinois.
'I had friends tell me: Why Bruce Pearl? Why would you want to play for a cheater," Gouard is quited in the magazine article. "But then they'd meet him and change their minds. They liked the guy."

The article, in the Oct. 15 edition, goes on to say that Gouard helped Pearl win two NCAA Division II national titles.
