Missouri State hires Mizzou DC Dave Steckel as head coach

Big time hire for them. If you've ever watched a Mizzou game, you've seen him hooting and hollering at his D on the sidelines. Expect MSU to have a very stout D while he is there.

Opposing quarterbacks beware. Mizzou always had one of the best pass rushes under Steckel's tenure. This guy is a very good coach...I wonder if it will translate to him being a good Head Coach?

Missouri State (FCS): Per source, Stec has lined himself up an impressive staff. We hear Northern Iowa OC Mario Verduzco will join as offensive coordinator, Lindenwood assistant head coach / defensive line Marcus Yokeley will join as defensive coordinator, Chris Morton as defensive line (defensive line coach at Wisconsin-Stout), Kenji Jackson as safeties (defensive grad assistant at Northwestern), Peter Badovinac at linebackers (defensive grad assistant at Missouri), Mack Brown as tight ends / special teams coordinator (offensive grad assistant at Missouri), John Egorugwu as receivers (offensive grad assistant at Missouri) and Munir Prince as running backs (receivers coach at Drake). We understand that offensive line coach Sean Coughlin has been retained.

Steckel apparently took a HUUUUUGE paycut to take this head coaching job at MSU. He was making in excess of $600,000 in Mizzou and will be making something like $270,000 per year at MSU. The guy clearly wanted to be a head coach, so good for him, but I highly doubt he sticks around too long at MSU if another opportunity comes up soon.
