The Varsity Level
I just heard that ISU has now bought Smiddy's carpet and all of those building on the west side of 13th Street. This was all bought with a new stadium in mind! Notice I state that it is a rumor. This is because there is nothing out there in the paper or on the news or anything. It is a hot topic with those down on 13th street though.:headbang:

That would be so sweet! An on campus, state of the art stadium could only help. It would contribute to the atmosphere on campus, would be a boost to football recruiting/perception, and would be a potential boom for the city. Just think, we could end up with an "Athletics Corridor" somewhat like "Saluki Way" down in Carbondale. Hulman Center, the new football stadium, the trike facility, and the fieldhouse/indoor practice facility. That'll be a nice area of campus. Should really make ISU "feel" more like a D-I university. That should help boost ISU's "street cred" with high school students, who do in fact use a schools' athletic department as a reason to attend a school...:krazy:

Bally #39

Actually, I heard over the weekend that the athletic department would REALLY like to build the stadium West of 3rd Street and actually on the banks of the Wabash. There has been some resistance to that from above because of the traffic on Third Street and the cost of building a pedestrian bridge across 41.

The most likely location for our "dream" of a new stadium is north of the Bally and in the area of the trike track and Statesman Towers, which the school wants to demolish. I am pretty sure that the University has no intentions of going east of the railroad tracks but might be interested in new access to campus from the area you mentioned off of 13th Street. I've been aware that a new stadium on campus has been talked about for more than two years but to be honest, they need to find a wealthy alum or two to really make it happen. If anyone can get this "dream" accomplished, it is RP. He has the vision but frankly, the new President has got to be on board before it could really happen. We can all help this by starting to return to Memorial Stadium this year and support our Trees and our new coach, who by all indications, is REALLY getting things done!

My uncle used to own a building right there -- he ran Associate's Plumbing. That whole area needs to be overhauled anyway, so this would be a perfect opportunity.

I exchanged emails with Ron Prettyman a couple of weeks ago, and he said flat-out that the new football stadium is a reality. They are currently deciding on an on-campus site, and that they are fundraising for the $$$. All it takes is moo-lah...

So, if you know of anyone that would like to get a football stadium named after them (and have a really, really big balance in their checking account), have 'em call Ron!!!

Very nice. Did he happen to mention any sort of figure for the project?
