Football Scoops is saying this morning that Coach Miles is after Mike Simmonds from Univ. South Florida. If we were to get him this would be great. Not only as a coach but from everything out there on him, he is a quality guy. But that is what you'd expect Coach Miles to go after. QUALITY.

That would be great but $$$ will be a real issue.

Yeah we've all talked about the $$ here before. ISU needs to figure a way to structure coaches pay through some outside sources to add to bases.

mike was on the south florida staff under jim leavitt....

both as a graduate assistant and as the full-time offensive line coach...before becoming a graduate assistant there, mike was a very successful high school coach in the tampa area for several years....

he was not retained by skip holtz...skip brought his own offensive line coach from east carolina....

as for Mike, he was an I-AA All-American at Indiana State....native of Belleville, Illinois.....

Come on Tom, you've got to know more than that!!! What are the chances that we get him??? That would surely help with recruiting Florida too, right?

I understood that he was a grad asst. there first then a full time OL coach last three years, I think that he played with Coach Miles????

Ithink we willget him as football scoops usually does not make post unless they have some sourceof reliabilty

i think that there's a chance that he might end up at isu...

if all goes well....but you never know.....lol....

if he were to come to indiana state, it would be good recruiting-wise since he would have close ties to a talent-rich tampa, florida area...he was a very successful high school coach there before going to south florida first as a graduate assistant and then as the team's regular offensive line coach.....

and since he played high school ball in belleville, illinois...it would be good recruiting-wise for the st. louis, east st. louis, belleville area......

and on the field it would be good...because the guy can coach.....if he were to come to indiana state, the offensive linemen had better be ready to work....because he would put them through the proverbial ringer...

no b.s. accepted...no excuses...the best players play....and you had better play with an edge and some fire....they had better be mentally and physically ready to play....no walking up to the line of scrimmage....they had better be sprinting up to the line...and they had better run block or pass block efficiently.....or there will be hell to pay....lol.....mike is an imposing figure.....when he was a student-athlete at isu, he once worked as a bouncer for one of the local bars during the summers....

again, that's "if" he comes to indiana state......

according to the tampa tribune.....from separate blogs at the paper....

--Former USF offensive line coach Mike Simmonds has talked with Indiana State coach Trent Miles about returning to his alma mater to join Miles’ staff. Simmonds also showed interest in Appalachian State’s opening for an OL coach after Shawn Elliott left to join Steve Spurrier’s staff at South Carolina. However, Appalachian State coach Jerry Moore is reportedly going to hire Bob McClain, a former Michigan assistant who spent last season as tight ends coach at Tulsa.

--Former USF offensive line coach Mike Simmonds has an offer to join Trent Miles’ staff at Indiana State. Miles recently lost assistant Mike Denbrock to Notre Dame when Brian Kelly took over the Irish. Simmonds and Miles played together at Indiana State in the mid-1980s, a few years after a guy named Larry Bird made the school famous. Simmonds is expected to make a decision about returning to his alma mater soon. Simmonds is one of five assistants under Jim Leavitt let go by Skip Holtz

Mike Simmonds

Everything isn't finalized yet, but it's just a matter of time before Mike Simmonds will be named the new OL coach for ISU. Still finalizing the transition from USF, but looks like it's gonna happen.

Great addition to the staff!

Very good to hear. We definitely need the oline to show a big improvement this season.

Anything new on Coach Simmonds? Are they still finalizing a move to ISU?

This would be a huge hire for the Trees for all the reasons tJames listed. I was at ISU when Simmonds was there. Great player.
