I would like to see us lure an existing successful D1AA/FCS HC. Regardless the person needs to have the ability to engage the community to promote involvement. and generate interest

Several names have been thrown out there as potential candidates:

Kevin Donley HC from University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne
Steve Englehart HC from Rose-Hulman (Former ISU player)
Mike Simmonds Asst from University of South Florida (Former ISU player)

Any others??

How about Trent Miles? Currently an assistant at University of Washington, also has coached at Oklahoma, Stanford, Notre Dame and for the Green Bay Packers. ISU alum and native Hautian!

ISU FB Coach

I would like for us to go after, Kevin Wright, ex Warren Central football coach who won three state championships in a row. Currently, offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky, and averaging 30+ ppg. Seems like a no brainer to me, highly successful Indiana coach who could recruit Indiana kids, coaching friends in the state, attendence, which would bring in revenue. My only concern is would RP even consider hiring him? I need your opinion here. We're not talking about a Purdue FB program, but ISU. If there would be an interest in him, I'm pretty sure, not pretty sure, but real sure I could convincehim to bring his talents to Terre Haute. Please give me your take.

Kevin Wright is actually an intriguing candidate. He's had a rather unstable last couple of years since leaving Warren Central, bouncing to Tulsa Union and then to Western Kentucky. He may like where he is at and the stability, but then again, he may thirst for an opportunity to break into the head coaching ranks.

I'm not familiar with Western Kentucky, but do they run his offense? Additionally, would he bring the same ground attack to college -- as I'm not quite sure it would be as successful as it is in the high school ranks. Are we talking an offense similar to Navy? It does appear by simply looking at stats that they run the ball quite a bit, over 200 yards per game.

What I do like is his ties to Indiana football. You've got to be able to successfully recruit your backyard first, especially on a limited recruiting budget, and he definitely would have the connections to do that successfully. I also like the fact that he's still young... under 45 years old I do believe.

Definitely an interesting candidate. For anyone else interested, you can check out Western Kentucky's statistics at the link below. State will also get to see WKU up close and personal in a couple weeks.

Good question, but I don't know that I care what level they're at now. I'd like to see a fairly young and enthusiastic coach who can either motivate the players or at least has the football mind to make the necessary changes during and after the games. Both skills would obviously be preferred, but you can't expect everything in ISU's current position.

He could bring ex-IUer Trent Green as QB coach and similar to Raetz, bring stepdad/former ISU HC TOM HARP out of retirement for a discount $$$.

He would definitely be another guy worth inquiring about. He knows the program as he played at State and was also a grad assistant here. However, he may be too far removed to step down like that unless he has head coaching aspirations.
