[November 25, 2024] Indiana State (3-2) at Southern Indiana (2-4)

WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

I have come here today to apologize to the Indiana State fans on this forum. When I heard that Indiana State signed a 4 year home and home series contract with Southern Indiana I became excited as a 6 year on Christmas Day. When I came on this forum two years ago to share my excitement and maybe starting a rrivand when Indiana State fans were not as excited as me and when 4Q_iu called us ISUE I became angry. When ISUE came into being UE and the powers to be called ISUE "west side high" so that is a sore spot for me.
It may not have showed but I have great admiration for Indiana State. If any current or former USI students and local residents know anything about USI's history when local leaders were trying to start a new State University in Evansville in the 1960's the powers to be and UE did everything in their power to stop that from happening. And when Indiana and Purdue declined to start a branch campus in Evansville Indiana State stepped and formed Indiana State University of Evansville. Then in 1974 when the powers to be and UE tried to close down ISUE and merge with UE and create a new private University, Evansville University, the Indiana State President shut that down real quick real fast.
Indiana State planted the seed for what Southern Indiana has become today and I thank you for that.
When i accepted the "screagamore trophy" it was done out satire and when I mention the "screagamore trophy and Highway 41 classic" in the future it will be satire.

I took no offense. Forums are made for mild/moderate trash talk. Assumed you accepted the sarcastic trophy with the same notion.

Congrats on the win. Glad we play your team, for no other reason than geography. Hope you all have a good season. Please don't be upset when we poach your next really good player :)

You're probably going to be accused of "being excited about their win" now. 🙄

Quite a bit different than going to another fan site and spewing absolute nonsense - nothing about what you posted on that forum was true. You went and spread complete shit about the school you supposedly cheer for. Then came on here and threw the same shit in our face and said if you don’t like it too bad… Much different than saying - congrats on the win.

Try going back and reading some of the stuff you guys posted two years ago and then get back with me.

Imagine how satisfying it must be to USI fans to hear ISU fans say before the game how USI is not worthy of being on our schedule after they beat us. We should be eating crow after the high-and-mighty attitude we as fans took to this game. I just can't understand how someone could still claim after the game that we shouldn't be playing them WHEN THEY BEAT US. That makes them better than us, not the other way around. It sounds like we are saying "we shouldn't be playing teams that might beat us even though they shouldn't". What kind of nonsense is that? Who WOULD you schedule then? USI is Division I and in our neighborhood - let's play them every year.

Years ago I predicted USI would one day go D1. They have had a plenty of success at D2. I'll make another prediction. USI is going to get better and better in the years to come. Some day they may not want to schedule us. It was a dissapointing loss for sure because I wanted to see our streak continue. In reality, we aren't that much better or worse than USI or most of the teams we play. That's why I don't lose any sleep over it.
"Someday they may not want to schedule us". Sounds a lot like "someday they may pass us up".

This is exactly why IU, Purdue, and ND won’t come to Terre Haute. Everything to lose, nothing to gain, and an in state loss. I’m sorry if you don’t think that’s important, but I do. We have to firmly establish ourselves as the top of the tier right below the Big Four in Indiana, if we want to build a program instead of a team. Losing to an in state team, particularly one in its first D-I season, doesn’t help us raise our profile.
Scheduling this series was monumentally stupid.

No reason to quote all the stupid things 4QIU has said about the series. I think we all know his thoughts already.

Parsons
Really stupid to schedule this game.

Once again, I said "a lot" of our fans, not "most" or "all". Here's an analogy: ISU missed "a lot" of free throws, doesn't mean ISU missed "most" or "all" of their free throws.

You didn’t read my post above - I am not even going to spend 2 seconds reading those posts. You know how much has changed in college basketball since then?

You’re really underscoring how eye opening last year was for a lot of us long time Sycamore fans. The highest NET to not make the NCAA Tournament, loss at Bama without our then best player, loss at Michigan State close and 2 losses to Drake. Literally only one bad loss all season. If that season doesn’t get you in the NCAA Tournament then it doesn’t matter - play regional games against other mids and let the chips fall how they will.

Also think USI deserves some credit in that they are much more viable opposition than I imagined they would be in a short period of time - they got that thing up and running at this level pretty well. Some can probably be attributed to the landscape as well - but that could be one of many reasons that people have warmed up to the idea of them being on the schedule.

If someone on here is truly worried about _____ school elevating themselves ahead of us they need not look at college basketball games and need to look at our financial situation, enrollment and decision making on what sports we want to fully fund. Who we play and the result of who we play in a basketball game is very far down on the list of things that will make anything like that become a reality.

Also people can evolve on little things like this and big things - your a Trump guy… I know you are very aware how people like RFK, JD Vance, Tulsi Gabbard, Joe Rogan and many others evolved on their opinion on Trump. So much so that they are now some of his closest allies.

So… Read the room! The comments leading up to this game with USI clearly and overwhelmingly showed a shift in attitude toward playing USI. If you want to pull up shit from two years ago and hold onto that then be my guest. But everything you posted on that forum was complete shit - totally inaccurate. Don’t present the opinion of one or two fans and pretend that represents all or even half of our fan base as you did.

Quit wasting my time then. I went through and showed you how what I said was true and you just blow it off, because it was 2 short years ago.

It's not my fault you guys didn't understand the landscape. We weren't even close to being the first Valley school that got screwed by the Selection Committee. SIU, Missouri State (twice), and Illinois State all fell victim before us. I think Missouri State was the highest RPI team ever to not make it (ranked around 21st). Loyola the year they went to the F4 wouldn't have made it if they had lost in St Louis and they beat a top 10 FL Gators team that year. The portal and NIL? We all saw that coming I thought.

Well you guys change your stances on USI so much it's hard to keep track. So that's my comment on your third and fourth paragraphs.

While I supported Trump in the general elections, I actually supported Cruz (16) and DeSantis (24) in the primaries, because Trump isn't as conservative as I'd like. RFK Jr, Tulsi Gabbard, Rogan, and Vance are all moderates. The Democrat Party has gone so far left that people like that don't even have a place in that party anymore. None of the whacked out leftists have changed their views on Trump. They were trying their best, in a very coordinated effort, to have him thrown in prison if he lost this election.

You know you are a very cruel person. It took a year and many sessions with my therapist to get over that. Now that I am emotional healed you had to bring back the trauma lol

I don’t think I am alone on this, but even going back to the first matchup, I had no problem scheduling D1 USI…however, I don’t think we should have started the series on the road. None of that matters today, but no way a longtime D1 program like ISU should have started the series on the road.

Agree. That didn’t make much sense… Oh well. Like you said, that has came and went.

Coming from the guy who very clearly doesn’t understand the overall collegiate athletics landscape, this is hilarious.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and are able to recharge, rest and enjoy time with family! I’m sure we’ll hear from you after the game tomorrow!

Good point. Hadn't considered this.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I doubt you'll hear from me tomorrow to be honest. I wasn't even going to comment on this game thread, until a few guys felt the need to mention me for whatever reason. My interest in pre-Xmas basketball is pretty low.
