Very nice deal for Sean. Awesome seeing former Sycamores doing well. He has also been generous with his financials by giving back to support the baseball program.

new deal is ~$2M more than the Giants contract he opted out of for FA status, $2M is nothing to sneeze at for any player

This is not true.
Sean turned down a 12.5M option for 2024 and signed a guarantee of 28M over 2024 and 2025. By turning down the option and tacking on an extra year, Sean guaranteed himself 15.5M in new money. He also maintained an opt-out clause after 2024 for the potential to add more money if he can perform well this season.
I would say that's a good pay day, but maybe you're in a different position than me. :D

Wasn't a math major at ISU, nor do I play one on TV but...

Manaea's SF Giant Contract, 2-yr, $25M contained a $5M signing bonus
2023 - $7.5M
2024 - $12.5M

He opted out of that contract, foregoing the $12.5M for 2024.

Manaea's NY Met Contract, 2-yr, $28M contains no signing bonus but an opt-out for 2025; so only $14.5 is "guaranteed"
2024 - $14.5M
2025 - $13.5M

I see him adding $2.5M to his earlier "planned" contract; I don't see your "$15.5M guaranteed."

Love to see the math

If you don't see $2.5M more (than expected under old contract) as a good pay; then, yes - we're in two different $$ positions

It's simple...his original contract from last offseason only guaranteed him 12.5 million more for 2024 (2023 is done). By forgoing the Giants 12.5M for 2024, he guaranteed himself 14.5M (2M more for 2024). Then, the option for 2025 is a player option (not team option), so he is guaranteed that 13.5M unless he opt's out again.

2M more for 2024 PLUS 13.5M for 2025 is 15.5M more in guaranteed money for former Sycamore, Sean Manaea.

Again the 2025 money (13.5M) is his money guaranteed unless he opt's out believing he can add additional guaranteed money as he did this offseason.

So basically he got himself 2 million more this year and then added at least 13.5 million next year unless something crazy happens

Gotcha -- Given that he opted out of his '24 with the Giants; I'm not looking at his '25 salary, guaranteed or not with the Mets UNTIL the 2025 season begins - but I understand your algebra.

Glad he's making that kind of cash; good for him.

We need more former Sycamores in the MLB.
