This is very foreign to these parts...

Head Basketball Coach
Athletic Director
President
Mayor

All going business to business downtown handing out Indiana State signage, promoting it on Twitter and collaborating to bring the City of Terre Haute, local businesses and the University together as one. It's the little things that we've never got right over the years and these guys collectively are all getting it done.

It's no secret I was hesitant on how the new President/AD would handle the positions, but their buy-in to our University and promoting athletics in the community has been a breath of fresh air. And NC's fundraising and people skills can't be understated. Glad we have some leadership that I think genuinely cares about this place.

On the flip side of that, instead of starting a new thread...am I the only one who's disappointed in the preseason coverage of MBB? Maybe I've got my head in the sand, but the lack of putting our guys and Graves on video is head-scratching. In this day and age, I'd argue it's even more important since no one knows anything about these kids. Just seems weird given the season we're coming off of, Graves' excitement to be here and the season-ticket momentum we've built.

Agreed on all. And yes, I'm lacking the itch that I usually have this time of year for basketball to start, and that's partly because of the lack of content being put out by ISU promoting the basketball team. Routinely I have to go to the gosycamores website just to remind myself who's even on the team. We literally know nothing about these guys at all. I'd even take the silly videos where they tell us their favorite food...just something.

This is awesome to see. We have something we can build on with our recent success, and it's great to see our new leadership and the mayor working together to keep it going and grow it.

They've been doing these "getting to know them" videos on twatter with game footage from their previous places.

But yeah, in today's NLI landscape, they almost need to have a dedicated content team to be doing hyper content drops.

I saw those on twitter - and I enjoy watching the highlights - I just think with NIL and the unfortunate current reality of college sports, there's got to be opportunity for personalities to shine through so they can promote themselves, and generate excitement in the community,

Does anyone know if schedule posters are out? Would be nice for them to be handed out at homecoming, say at the Alumni tent at Memorial Stadium.

Twitter/X has been such a cesspool lately that I hardly ever see any Sycamore content. It's full of bots, adds and political junk. I need to seek it out the ISU content more, I guess.

Part of the problem is that no one has filled Luke Martin's role as far as I can decipher.

But.....Luke wasn't responsible for doing anything important, remember? The jackass that is responsible for his early departure should be removed from his position, IMHO.

Yep, totally agree. I ditched my private account and only use it for the Sycamore Pride account these days. I use their Tweetdeck so I can only see the hashtags and search phrases I want to get away from the algo serving me politics, fight videos and other rage bait.

There is a new social media protocol that is now a couple years old called Nostr. It's in it's infancy, but it is based off cryptography (comes out of the Bitcoin cyberpunk ethos) and one of the cool things is you'll be able to created curated social networks essentially based off their relay system.

The secret sauce is you own your digital identity (private key) and can use it with any Nostr protocol app. Imagine being able to use account for any social media app and you own your data. Fingers crossed it keeps progressing.

Interesting... I know I read that Elon Mu$k was going to make it better, much better; problably the most beautiful, be$t it could be... in the history of the world best. at least that's what people were talking about, a lot of people... so many people, you wouldn't believe how many people

It could be great if you're wanting to follow adult actresses and "models," racist joke accounts, fight videos, far leaning political commentary, and more "models." For some, it's perfect.

I'm betting most of you simply don't like Twitter anymore because you don't like the owner and who he is supporting.

Facebook is nothing but bots, political nonsense, and ads too; although the feeds option where I can just see what my friends have posted is the best thing they ever added.

Instagram was my favorite SM platform, but hardly anyone I know uses it which made it boring, to where I finally deleted mine.

Snapchat is just dumb and I literally don't see the point in it.

Til Tok. Yeah I'll be honest I'm not too big of a fan of the group that might be spying on me on there (the Communist Chinese government), so I've never had one and never will.

They literally told you why they didn't like twatter and you weren't okay with their answer? It's the algo. Repeat, it's the algorithm. It is designed to be very sticky and to press your emotional buttons. You are presented with certain topics and content even if you don't want it.

All for-profit social media also sells your information to hundreds of parties. Hell, X just changed their TOS last week that goes into effect on November 15th:

“By submitting, posting or displaying Content on or through the Services, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to make your Content available to the rest of the world,” the terms of service said, which includes the right to analyze any of that content “including, for example, for use with and training of our machine learning and artificial intelligence models, whether generative or another type.”

So now in addition to selling it, they can use it to create AI personas off of your profile. That's dangerous and you have no recourse.

If anyone wants to see what algo-free social media looks like, here is my Nostr profile:

You start at ZERO and you get ONLY the content of the people and topics you follow. Like I mentioned in my post above, you own your ID and content (you can also get "zapped" Bitcoin if people enjoy it) and your private key is used to access any application built on the protocol. Here is a website that has all of the things built on it so far:

One caveat... as it's open, decentralized and uncontrolled, there are no guardrails, no censorship, and is a bit of what the Internet used to be before it was heavily regulated.
