The All-MVC Level
not many follow ISU women's soccer, but after a dreadful season where they only won 3 times and went into the MVC tourney as the 6 seed, tonight they knocked off the 3 seed Drake 1-0 in double overtime.

I think the women's soccer coach took another job at ISU, so maybe the girls were inspired to play well so he could live to coach again.

Semi-finals are Friday, they play Illinois State (the 2 seed)

Congratulations!

Congratulations to the soccer team for the big victory over Drake!

I went to three home games this iseason and thought we had some young talent but we could not generate much offense. Coach Croft recruited a number of new people last season. I hope they stay around though he has taken a new job as head of athletic fascilities management.

Best of luck against Illinois State Friday.

that was ISU's 1st ever win over Drake in women's soccer too. Hopefully they can carry this momentum into tomorrow's match w/ Illinois State, then into the 2009 season.

ISU wins again....

Wow, in the frigid cold and wind of Omaha, Indiana State beat the #2 seed Illinois State Redbirds 1-0 tonight and now play in the MVC Championship Match tomorrow against Evansville. Win that match and it's on to the NCAA tournament. I doubt ISU has ever made it to the ncaa's have they??

after a season where they won only 3 matches, who could have ever seen this coming. Congrats girls, you're winning when it counts I guess, now go out and beat the Aces!

Croft lives to coach yet again.

by the way, Indiana State had 3 (THREE) shots on goal to Illinois State's 16, unreal.

also, the championship match is on Fox Sports Midwest live at 3:30pm (EST), 2:30 Central time on Saturday.

eh, the championship game is on Sunday, not today! Sorry about that, it's still on fox sports midwest though.

mvc title match

women lost a tough, much closer match in the championship today vs. Evansville 2-0 (who is much more experienced than ISU right now).

Watched a bit of it on TV and ISU should definitely move up in the standings and have a higher seed in 2009. Lots of freshman on this team who will be better and better each season. The 3 seniors they lose were excellent players too.

all tournament team: (for a team that had 3 wins all season, this is impressive)

Kayla Lambert of Evansville was named Most Valuable Player of the 2008 State Farm MVC Women's Soccer Championship after leading the Purple Aces to the 2008 title. She is joined by 12 other players representing the six teams in the tournament field.

Kayla Lambert Evansville
Theresa Bagby Evansville
Kellee Wideneer Evansville
Kara Murphy Evansville
Amanda Gogel Indiana State
Alyssa Ramsey Indiana State
Alison Gasparovich Indiana State

Katie Sauer Drake
Lindsay Vaught Creighton
Ammanda Wisneiwski Illinois State
Jess Carlson Illinois State
Caroline Sweeney Missouri State
Jessica Smits Missouri State

Great run in the tourney gals!

Ellen Gittemeier is Fox Sports Network Player of the Game

Congratulations to Coach Croft and the Sycamores soccer squad for the inspiring performances in the MVC tournament!

In addition to the three All-Tournament selections cited above, sophomore Ellen Gittemeier was named Fox Sports Network Player of the Game. Gasparovich is a freshman and, like Gittemeier, hails from Overland Park, Kan. Gogel and Ramsey are seniors.
