Yang is an outstanding example of the great student athletes that Coach Towne has on his Women's Golf Team. As a group they are the epitome of what being a student athlete should mean.

ST. LOUIS – Indiana State women's golfer YANG TAI was selected as a State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Spring Award recipient for the league's women's golfers, announced by the conference on Wednesday.

The junior is the lone women's golfer receiving the award and is one of 12 total student-athletes receiving the award this spring.

Tai's Academics and Community Service
Tai boasts a 3.98 cumulative GPA and a 3.97 major GPA as a Chemistry and Pre-Med major. She finished the season with the second-lowest stroke average on the team and was the lowest finisher at the MVC Championship earlier in April.

Academic Awards & Achievements:
  • Earl Cooper Smith Award (May 2024)
  • William H. Bell Award in Chemistry (May 2023)
  • Research with Dr. Justin Miller: mutation of P450 Enzymes – performed poster presentations sharing research at Northwestern University, University of Notre Dame, Rose-Hulman Institute of Tech, and Indiana State
  • She is a teaching assistant for General Chem Labs

Community Service:
  • Timothy Global Health: Trip Leader of the medical services trip to Ecuador (January 2025)
    • Set up mobile clinics and treat over 1,000 patients in the rural communities of Ecuador
  • Community service member (Spring 2024, member since Fall 2023)
  • American Chemical Society: Treasurer (Fall 2024 to Spring 2025, member since Fall 2023)
    • They make regular visits to local elementary and middle schools to conduct a variety of Chemistry experiments and demonstrations for students, which hopefully inspires students to pursue careers in Chemistry
  • Pre-Med Association – volunteer at the Mollie R. Wheat Memorial Clinic
    • This is a 100% free, student-run clinic that operates out of the Landsbaum Center for Health Education
    • Students are from the IU School of Medicine – Terre Haute campus, as well as Indiana State
    • Mission is to provide acute primary care, health screenings, and patient education

About the Award
The purpose is to honor model students-athletes who are also outstanding citizens.

Criteria:
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service
  • Participate in sport in season of recognition (Only student-athletes from sports the MVC sponsors can be nominated as of Fall 2021)
