They're 1-4 and lost at home to Duquesne, an NEC school that is limited to 45 scholarships. The past few years we've played very competitive games with them. I think it will be an uphill battle for sure since we're on the road, but I do think there's a chance we could pull off an upset in this one.

Last year when they made the playoffs, their run defense allowed 102 yards a game. I’m sure Mallory will keep running the ball over and over again. Our punter is really getting a lot of snaps this year.

I wish Mallory would take over the play calling or make a change. The offense has underperformed since 2022. It’s a new week and I believe we will make the adjustments!

Indiana State playbook.

But once those big boosters we have throw another couple of million into the program and Mallory gets bought out,.....the SKY IS THE LIMIT.

I've heard that they have already hired an engineer to build an annex onto the football offices for all of the trophies the new coach will win.

We can go back to the glory days of fifty years ago when we had 18k in the stands, won 10 games a year, a Cadillac in every garage and a chicken in every pot. It will be glorious!

They have a new OC, but it’s the same ole same ole. 2 runs, 1 pass, punt.

Aren't all assistant coaches at-will employees, that the head coach is in charge of hiring / firing? I thought the head coach was the only one under any kind of contract.

To be fair to Mike Bath (the OC) I'm not entirely convinced that he's the problem. Our offense has looked completely awful since the 2019 season, and he didn't show up here until 2022. We're running the offense that Mallory wants.

Not only does the average fan know his scheme, but so does the opposing team coaches know what he’ll run.

If they are under contract, then I'm sure it's on a year by year basis. Nothing would stop Mallory from hiring someone else (for any assistant slot) this upcoming off-season.

Because coaches are always firing / hiring coaches during the season every year. Purdue's HC already fired their OC after 4 games.

The fact that coaches are "always fired/hired during a season" doesn't mean they DON'T have contracts, it just means the employer (school) has to have the $$ or access to $$ to meet the terms of termination in the contract.

there are stories outlining what purdue still owes that coordinator under the terms of HIS contract

so, WHY do you believe coaches DON'T have contracts?

I suppose they are under contract then. I'd be curious to know what Mike Bath's contract is, and who determines the contract length (HC, AD both?), since he is a public employee.

OC changes rarely make a big difference if the coach and his preferences remain the same. Mallory likes a slow, plodding offense with little imagination and very little passing. That usually results in having a tough time recruiting good offensive talent (as does losing a lot).

Oh, I completely agree with you. That's why I stated on post #9 that I don't think Bath is entirely the problem. I think he's running the exact offense his boss wants him to run. The only way out offense will improve is if Mallory hires someone that knows what they're doing and he stays completely out of the offense, because his offensive mindset of trying to run the ball right up the middle 85% of the time just doesn't work here.

If Mallory wants to run run run then we need to install an offense similar to the academies, since it doesn't require linemen that are as good, because we aren't ever going to get good enough linemen to successfully run the "Michigan offense". We'd also have the advantage of being hard to prepare for since very few teams run that style of offense these days. It doesn't take much to figure out this current offense.

Will anything change today, this season, next season, or ever under Mallory? I seriously doubt it. Mallory is borderline insane thinking that one day this offense will somehow break through and give us what we need to have a winning season and make the playoffs. It's clear to me that he has no idea what he's doing and is on the Lansing plan of taking ISU's money and praying for a miracle. I want Mallory to turn things around and be successful, but I'm not sure Mallory has that same desire. Winning coaches will try anything to win, and loser coaches will be content to keep running the same old failed playbook over and over again.
