Will this ever happen? ESPN could market the crap out of it. Wooden from Indiana, BS from PU, MS degree from ISU, coached at ISU, developed his Pyramid of Success at ISU. Alford now at UCLA and from Indiana like Wooden. Royce Waltman coached Alford at IU and then coached at ISU. Have Knight there for interviews... Don't think Knight cared much for Wooden though. Bird and Bill Walton can do the play by play... LOL This should happen...:cheeky:

If ESPN were to ever put this together (and they won't) they would pick Purdue to play UCLA long before they would ever look in our direction.

Probably true.... but ISU has some unique "value/add" in the Bird/Walton relationship... that could be entertaining... If I were ISU I would fight for it... there are some compelling sideline relationships here... Likely will never come to fruition though.

We were specifically invited to play UCLA in 2012, to christen the revamped Pauley Pavilion because UCLA christened our new Arena ~1964.

Coach Wooden called Coach Klueh and asked if we would be interested in playing them (UCLA) to open the arena.

December 5, 1964 Indiana State 71. UCLA 112

I believe that the first game was vs. Illinois State on December 3 and the Sycamores were undefeated (after 1 game) before the Bruins came to town.

How many of us were with me in the Arena that night to witness the IS/UCLA game? I was a freshman.

I was there too. It was the first college game I ever attended. Gail Goodrich was their hot-shot guard at the time.

The Bruins had just lost at Michigan and had something to prove that night iirc. Taht game was one of the events in my college experience that I will always remember.
