She and ME has a Hell of a lot more than the AFL-CIO does. The AFL-CIO did NOT take an oath to protect and defend this country.........I DID!!!!

Well, look who showed up as if I didn't know who one of the first to do so would be. We will not see eye to eye on this subject and that's O.K.. We have a crisis in this country and laws are not being enforced. We are a country of laws and it is not a smorgasbord to be picked and chosen from as to which one's are enforced.

Hey old buddy you knew I couldn't keep my mouth shut LOL Actually on the subject of immigration we probably do have some agreement on the matter . My point was and is this the AFL_CIO represents millions of members worldwide . They have an interest in all things political not just in this country but in others as well. The AFL_CIO is a collection of not just national unions but International unions as well. They represent people of all backgrounds weather they are White, Black , Hispanic Asian etc. Do I agree with the immigration problem we have ? No. But I think a union that represents people from other countries has a horse in the race.

Dave, i wasn't aware that the AFL-CIO had any interest or involvement in workers in foreign countries. I thought one major reason for so many of the major companies(Ford, Whirlpool)moving South of the border was to escape the high labor cost in the U.S. Hell, when Whirlpool left Evansville my wife and I vowed to never buy another Whirlpool product, but then discovered if we stuck to that pledge we wouldn't ever find an appliance made in the U.S..
Seriously, I am truly concerned about our border security not only from a terrorist standpoint, but also from a public health standpoint as it was announced some illegals have T.B. and some other communicable diseases. I feel bad for these kids risking their lives to come to the U.S. to find safety and security. I know from personal experience when we lived in Florida that the work ethic from those South of the border is second to none.

Interesting conversation. A couple facts for whatever they're worth. Re: DAVEINTH's comments about the AFL-CIO having more of an international identity: The current AFL-CIO member unions have very very very few international members. The AFL-CIO today and for its history has been identified more as an organization representing large American unions some of which are described as being international. Frankly very few of the AFL-CIO member unions have done much about international organizing or have many union members that are not American citizens. The primary reason for that is that the vast majority of international unionists throughout the world, with the exception of the United States, believe and practice Unionism through political parties like the Labour Party in Great Britain. There lies the primary distinction between American organized labor and international organized labor and in my opinion the primary reason there have never been many international members of the unions that make up the AFL-CIO.

Another point, and I guess this is more towards the Chief's initial position, the AFL CIO has been an unbelievably active lobbyist for social and economic change since the AF of L was led by Samuel Gompers in the early 20th century. To be upset about the AFL CIO having a voice in lobbying about an immigration issue is like being upset about the NRA having a voice in lobbying about safety in schools after some psycho kills students and teachers. You may not like it because you have an opposing opinion but don't get upset about it because, as us old-timers well know, that's the way it's done here in the good old US of A.
