Just heard on CBS, that Steve Alford coach at New Mexico, going over to UCLA Bruins, after a couple of weeks ago signing a multi-million dollar contract for 10 yrs.over in Lobo country, home of the Pitt. Rumor has it, Greg Marshall over at Shocker land would be a top canidate for the New Mexico job. We better take care of Mr. Lansing and his 225,000, 5 yr. contract. do yu agree???

I think Drake was the only program that was interested in Lansing this offseason. He has done enough to get on some lists as a person/coach to watch, but not enough to be offered anything,.....yet. I think that will change in a few years. Hope I am right.

I feel VERY happy for one of my favorite coaches, Steve Alford. He's a great coach and I am sure he will be successful in his journey to return UCLA to what it formerly was. I am sure he will make John Wooden proud.

I was touched by this humble statement about fan loyalty. "There is no other place I would rather coach than UNM, representing the best fans in the country." Now that's a guy who loves his fans more than himself. Wait a minute.......he was talking about UNM fans, not his new fans at UCLA. Damn you just can't bottle up integrity like that can you? Good things happen to good people. I suppose the opposite is true as well. Welcome to La La land, coach. And welcome to his dad as well-- as I know he keeps him on a leash still.

Basically, with Alford, it is what it is. What angers me so much is that statement that he made about a week ahead of being hired at UCLA, i.e "There is no other place I would rather coach than UNM, representing the best fans in the country." If that doesn't reflect the integrity of this coach, NOTHING does. I actually feel he is a good coach but I can't tolerate that kind of boldface lie. I just hopes he doesn't steal away Greg like Altman did with K-Mac.

He was fired by Alford
They are still friends despite that. He was somewhat of a sacrificial lamb in that deal. They needed a change, they just didn't know it was Alford that had to go. It was no coincidence that Steve brought NM to Hulman. They are buddies. That is generally a fail-fail scenario when you take on that job, ask Todd Lickliter. After seeing their fans when I was up there, trust me, the new guy has turned it around and they are 110% behind that team now, almost fanatical. Very impressed.

SF317, I understand that that rule may be coming to the NCAA by 2014 or more likely 2015. The players are the ones that get taken advantage of. They have no choice in the matter and have to sit out. Time for the coaches to do same, I would guess unless their contracts expire.

UNM to Hulman Center was a result of the MVC/MWC challenge. It had nothing to do with Alford and Lansing's relationship. It was based on where the two teams finished in 2010-2011.

I thought that Challenge had ended. My bad. Thanks for setting me straight. I watched them though, and it looked very cordial between them, not like Keady and Knight.
