Very exciting finish for Stanford as they defeated Indiana Monday to go to the Super Regional at Vanderbilt. The Hoosiers were 39-0 when leading in the 8th. Stanford changed that with a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth by their freshman switch-hitting short-stop. His first homer from the left side. The pitcher for the last 2.1 innings was a freshman starter finishing up the tourney...pitching on three days rest from his last start.

Seven of sixteen #1 seeds advance, 4 #2's, 4 #3's & 1 #4.

IU fans do support their team. Although I believe it will be a while before they get to host any more regionals.

I'm glad they lost, but I don't know why they wouldn't get to host again. Their facility is very very nice. The only thing I saw that might not be so great was the artificial surfaced pitchers mound. Other than that it was top notch.

I am not an IU fan at all either (quite the opposite) & while I agree with your assessment of their facility I just believe they have had a good two year run and now it is over for a while. They will go back to where they came from and not be in a position to host a regional again for some time if ever.

I would tend to agree with you. Every year we are supposed to keep an eye out for the "next great team from the Big 10." The latest and greatest from the north. A few years ago it was Minnesota, then Michigan, then Ohio State, then Purdue, Now IU. Every year you get that team that gets hot and makes it to Omaha. That Stoneybrook Cinderella team. Could be Kennesaw State this year. It was IU last year. If memory serves me right, they came within an out of getting beat by Valpo last year in the regional, so they had a little luck on their side, which is what it takes.

As hard as they try, the Big Ten will never be a power baseball conference. The SEC, PAC 12, and Big 12 will always get the best recruits from the area. IU has a nice facility and they will get nice players, but not good enough to make a run like this every year.

The Big Ten will be like the Valley. A bunch of good teams with a bunch of good players beating up on each other and the last one or two will get into the tournament.
