From the WTHI link...

"...ISU will receive $450,000 for playing at Penn State, that's the largest payday in school history. Over the next few years the Sycamores have several big money games, with road contest at Indiana University in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and Purdue University in 2013 and 2015.

In 2016, ISU plays at Minnesota. The payday will exceed the Penn State game, the Sycamores will receive $475,000 to play the Gophers. Then in 2017, ISU will play at the University of Tennessee. The Volunteers will pay ISU $500,000, which will be the programs largest profit in school history."

Some pretty good games... and all within driving distance for the tailgaters! (Ok, Minnesota would be a haul, but IU, Purdue and Tennessee all within range).

I have been in Knoxville and it is a sea of orange. They are one of two schools that fans can arrive by boat to see the game. Can't wait to see a pocket of blue in the stands. It's not that far away; went for a walkout there when I was in college.

I've been to a few games there. Amazing atmosphere that will be even more amazing when 107,000 fans in orange are silent as the Sycamores run out the clock....:sycamores:

I know many fans complain about these game and I understand why they do. I personally hope they never go away because for many FCS schools it really makes or breaks their budget. Fans fail to realise is that one of the games is enough to pay the entire coaching staff for a year.

Miles on conference realignment...

Coach Miles spoke on the FBS realignment.... gave some pointed statements how any further realignment MAY affect us:

Miles did note that one side-effect for schools at the FCS level, like Indiana State, is that access to the most-coveted money games might be restricted if the superconference concept becomes the norm.

“It has a chance to hurt us. For us to get a Penn State or Tennessee to play us and pay us, they might just go to the Alabama-Birmingham’s and Ball State’s instead of us. It might have a trickle-down effect in that regard. Our money game would end up being against a MAC-level team,” Miles said.

2016 at Minnesota will be great. I should have retired by then, I have a cottage up in Brainrd Lakes. Will be there in person!!!!!!

And if we do have to go the MAC route, as we did in Miles' first year here (played at Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois), it will likely mean two games per season. I don't like that. We can't kid ourselves, we're not going to get to play a team as bad as Western Kentucky everytime we play a low level FBS.

Let's just hope that by the time we go the 'MAC route' (if ever...)

The team will be doing so well that we won't NEED the money games!

I.E. A consistent winner; a consistent MVFC title-contender, a multi- playoff-contending team; home crowds of ~15K-20K in a NEW Memorial/Sycamore Stadium off of 3rd Street...

If we have those kind of crowds, I hope we would be part of the MAC. I agree that the Majority of the MAC is closer to FCS than FBS, and we may very well see these designations change and conferences reclassified. If there are shake upes in the MVC, I hope we can land in a conference with Ball State. I also hope AD Prettyman is keeping tabs on what else is going on and looking for opportunities to put us in a better position. I'm afraid if we push down the football ladder, our dreams of those larger crowds and fanbase will disappear. The non football schools of the BE are talking and Creighton is salivating about what might form. ILSU thinks they are a lock for the MAC including SIU. We must continue to improve our football and basketball to be an attractive conference mate.

What are your sources on CU, Ill St and SIU?

With the Pac-12 NOT expanding (for now...) and the Big 12 schools ousting their Commish... AND the Big East looking at a short list (Army, Navy, Air Force, Central FLA, East Carolina (really?!) for current FBS members; I'm not sure the Big East will bring in ANOTHER non-football school...

I think we'll see 4-5 superconferences, maybe 6 like the BCS today.
I could see the entire MAC being DOWNGRADED to FCS, before I see more FCS schools trying to move up to FBS.

It's about TV money and SIU, ILL State are going to bring a lot of TV money. Look at the MAC today; most of the schools are twice our enrollment, sit in some larger TV markets and they STILL can't increase revenue.

I see the BCS schools PULLING UP the football ladder after them. I won't be surprised if we see 5 'distinct' classes of NCAA Football:

1 - BCS (call them the Entitled)
2 - FBS
3 - FCS
4 - Div II
5 - Div III
