Folks, ISU hasn't won a single MVC title in any sport this school year and this week ISU has the opportunity to win 3 MVC championships, baseball and men's and women's outdoor track. Everyone knows ISU is hosting the MVC outdoor meet. If you're ANYWHERE near TH get to the meet, it's going to be an awesome meet with lots of top notch performances from every athlete and every school. Even if you've never been to a track meet before, this is the meet to attend. There will be plenty of seating. They're doing the stadium up really nice. And cheer loudly for ISU athletes especially.

If that's not your fancy, drive to Springfield, Missouri and cheer on the baseball team, they need 2 wins to win the MVC title outright, something ISU has never done.

It could be an historical week for ISU sports, wear your Sycamore gear proudly folks.

Sounds like a fun week. But if i may correct you i do believe ISU's baseball team won MVC titles in the 80's or something when they went to the college world series more than a couple times.

I thought all of State MVC baseball titles were conf tourney titles? Regardless, believe the Trees will win it outright this season; 1 win is a share and 2 wins clinches the regular season outright, no?

I think the titles ISU won were "shared titles", I don't think ISU has ever won a title outright. We can double check.

It's my recollection that ISU has never won the regular season title "outright"... they have some shared regular season titles.

If my memory is correct and that may be questionable at times, didn't the '86 team lose the 1st game in the MVC tourney and then come back to win six straight (one against every team in the field)? They went to Michigan for the NCAA (I was there) and beat Central Michigan and Michigan to advance to the CWS. Only remember four teams in the regional; those mentioned and Oral Roberts?

Though the weekend didn't go as well for the Sycamore's as we would have hoped it gives a lot of hope for ISU athletics. The track looked great this weekend and the new baseball stadium on its way. Things are on the rise in Terre Haute (at least in the spring sports). Hopefully it catches on this fall! Go Sycamores

there is hope, I agree, ISU needs to get to the point where they are expected to compete for MVC titles in every sport in which they field teams. The week ended with a 2nd place MVC finish and two 3rd place MVC finishes. And like you and I both mentioned, while this is good, at the same time it's a little disappointing because we all thought the outcomes would be better for ISU.

CC and Track will nearly always be at the top of the MVC, hopefully next season we'll see all the other sports do the same, I think we're going to witness some huge strides in 2009-2010 for all 14 ISU sports.
