The White Level
One of the best basketball camps in the country is located in northeast Iowa at Wartburg College and is called Snow Valley. Over 1300 boys and girls of all ages attend one week of camp over a 4 week period.

One of the primary guest coaches for all of the sessions is the one and only Tates Locke! He still has that firey style and talks fondly of his days at ISU. He lives in Florida and runs his own camps in addition to guest lecturing at others including Snow Valley. We have visited each of the past two years and talked about everything from Eddie Bird and Greg Thomas to assistant coaches Doug Novsek, Phil Hopkins and Jeff Bell. It sounds like he stays in contact with a number of former players including Ernie Maesch.

One of my best memories of the Locke years was traveling with the team to Arizona State and arriving to my room to find that the television and phone didn't work. After inquiring at the front desk they said those items had been turned off because Coach Locke said if you were in your room you should be sleeping or studying!

The Tates years were interesting from the second he was hired to the end of his tenure!

Coach Locke also has a book that he co-authored years ago chronicling his years at Clemson called "Caught in the Net"
