The kids are turning in uniforms and other equipment and the coach is meeting with players officially marking the closing day of the baseball campaign. Although I would love to be a fly on the wall, I'm sure his analysis of the future of the team is about the same--to the extent of our knowledge--as those of us on this forum. "Do more of what we did well and do less of what we didn't do well." We have a few bats to replace, but the biggest hurdle is in the pitching department, where I can't see that anyone has a guaranteed role. We need new arms and we need the arms we have to move to the next level. It seems to me that the "clay" is good and it just has to be molded and fired in just right manner to get the perfect form! I firmly believe this the young men in the pen that are coming back will show marked improvement. As most were new to the program this year, they now know what is expected of them and they have tasted success in a big way and also the agony of defeat. If the season ending on such a sour note didn't bother them, I'd worry. But I don't think that's the case. It was a major disappointment.
Congratulations again to Coach Meggs, his assistants and to an awesome group of young men. Off season recuiting to fill in a few more slots should go well with ISU's great season, the coach being coach of the year and the new stadium.
