With the return to the line-up yesterday of Jeremy Lucas and Levi Ferguson, ISU's injury list was cut by 50%. Lucas had a sore elbow and took a couple of weeks of complete rest to get it healthy. It was the same elbow that was surgically repaired for cartilege damage last fall. He went the distance behid the dish Tuesday. Ferguson, who Coach Heller thought might be lost for the season with a shoulder injury, also was in the line-up for most of the game at Valpo until being lifted for a pinch-hitter late in the game. As we don't have any details about what has changed in his prognosis, we can only hope that he's well enough to stay put in the line-up and can begin building his batting average and have a strong-enough arm to do the job in the OF.

There's still a couple of pitchers on the disabled list. Brandon Dorsett is apparently back in uniform and his shoulder is feeling healthy. He may throw as early as today against Ball State. However, we're hearing that Tyler Browning is still on the sidelines and is going through more testing on his arm. Not a good prognosis there. (SEE CLARIFICATION BELOW)

Does anyone have any other inside info that would bring more clarity to the injury report?

Tyler Browning, the ace closer from 2010 will have to medical red-shirt this season as he will undergo shoulder surgery and then rehab over the summer. He should be in good form for fall workouts, with the prognosis for a full recovery being excellent.

Tyler is having arthroscopic surgery next week. He has a condition that is rare (that's why it took so long to diagnose), but NOT serious.

There is a large nerve in the shoulder that has become impinged against a ligament and the nerve endings are being irritated, causing pain. They will go in and release the nerve from the ligament, then the nerve endings will repair themselves.

I'm sure Tyler is bummed about missing this season...but I have to say that he will be a big part of the program for the next three years.

We wish this great young man only the best and look forward to his return to the mound in the fall.
