Gotta Hav

The Wade Level
In case you haven't heard, Chris Hancock has resigned his position as Director of the Alumni Association, and taken a job with Ivy Tech in Indianapolis.

This news came as quite a shock, but at the same time, doesn't surprise me.

You have to be almost super human to do this job. Is there any time in the year, when the demands of it ever slow down? No. It just goes from being busy to being busier.

Thanks Chris, for being our Director for as long as you had the job. It was a great ride, and you will be missed. Good luck, congratualtions, best wishes, and good fortune for you and your family.

Indiana State and its Alumni have been fortunate to have had you, and John Newton for 40 plus years, to carry the load of this demanding job.

We will miss you as our Director.

Saw it announced in the latest MarchON! / alumni mailer...

Only met Chris a handful of times, John Newton is / was hard to replace...
Would be easier to take if we hadn't lost him to Ivy Tech (?!?)

Hope the University makes a great hire --

Good luck in Indy

Why are we losing employees to Ivy Tech.
I don't think that in a normal situation, we will lose too many to Ivy Tech but in Chris' situation, it was a great opportunity in a newly-created position, likely some more money and a return to a town he loves. He will be hard to replace and we all will miss him and of course, we wish him the best (although selfishly, I am likely to see more of him now than when he was TH).

It appears that he truly is going to be hard to replace, as they are still looking after more than two months. I'll save any thoughts on the direction they are going until after something is announced.

though I understand the cirtical (somewhat deserved) eye on Ivy Tech. But the reality is that Ivy Tech pays better, has MUCH better benefits and does not have the ridiculous politics (sure there are some but not like at ISU) that typically exist at schools. Chris is in a much better situation for himself and his family and a welcome addition to Ivy Tech where he will flourish and do a wonderful job for an institution that will continue to grow and improve. Ivy Tech isn't perfect, but Ivy Tech does have one thing that ISU, IU, PU and other don't have.....130,000 students and within state politics no school (save IU possibly) has a better foothold in the state house.

The alumni association certainly isn't looking all that hard! They haven't even posted a position and they are not willing to pay what is necessary to find a proper candidate.

And complete support from the legislature, despite completely missing the mark on most of the measurables that they hold the rest of the universities to...

Can I get a WITNESS!!!!

again, I am not saying its right, but it is true that virtually every state legislator has some kind of ties to Ivy Tech in some way.

It's really a brilliant strategy for them, instituted I believe, by an ISU graduate who was their president...I could be wrong...but a seriously brilliant strategy...

so, Bally you say the Alumni Assoc is trying to find a replacement? Whats the deal? No position posted (which technically since this position is under the foundation they dont' have to post it), but from what I heard they are not even trying to find anyone...have they actively tried to find some people?

They may be conducting a 'quiet search' for the time being...

As to Ivy Tech's buying of the state legislature, it borders on the criminal; how anyone can't see the bribery that is occuring... simply baffling

Sack, I would say yes and I do know people that have talked to them about the position but I seriously do not know if they have had an "official" interview. Sadly, I haven't even talked to Chris since he left. My work schedule has been a little whack and basically I haven't talked to anyone in the Alumni Office since April. That may be some kind of record for me. Dr. Bradley apparently has been on a prolonged vacation so I have been told and that might be slowing the process a bit. Anyone else hearing anything?

The Bradleys always travel considerably in June so that doesn't surprise me. But I haven't heard one word about Chris's replacement at all. And I have spoken to Chris on multiple occasions.

Perhaps THIS trip and occupied Dr Bradley's attention...

You can tell the scholars DIG their work! :-) They are not going to float this decsion indefinetly. They might save a few months salary but it is a very important piece of the puzzle especially coming into homecoming which Dr. Bradley knows is critcal. My gut feeling is that "interim" choice will not end up being permanent but I may well be wrong. Like I said, my contact with the Alumni Association has been infrequent of late. It might be the fact that I don't really know who to call. They will get it right, but who knows when. A lack of leadership thru the Alumni golf season and HC will NOT be a good thing. My guess is that they are aware of that~

Mitch Daniels has been steering all education efforts towards Ivy Tech for the past few years. If it was totally at his discretion they would be the only educational entity getting any state funding.
