boy...didnt i know that one was coming....lol...

even if isu had a team, i dont think she would have come....lol......

twenty years ago she may have jumped at the chance to attend ISU, very few colleges could match ISU's gymnastics program back in the day....

hmm...that was the men's program...not the women's.....

the men's program was one of the nation's best....not the women.....they were okay...not bad...but not a national contender....

boy...try to congratulate a former sycamore football player.....

and we end up talking about the cutting of sports from nearly 20 years ago....lol.....

did they????

if they did, i sure dont remember....i know that the men tied for the ncaa title....but i don't remember the women doing as well...maybe they did....lol....

Yep - AIAW

Hard to win the NCAA when they didn't sanction women's sports...

I believe the NCAA recognizes the AIAW championships; they just make the notation taht prior to 1982, the NCAA didn't sanction women's sports.

you are correct sir....

the isu men's and women's athletic departments weren't together until the 1980s...until then there were separate athletic departments....with alpha cleary serving as the women's athletic director.....and since greta's team won in 1971, i was still in high school....a sophomore at th north i think...lol.....so my bad.....i didnt start working at isu as a student until the spring of 1975.....

i do remember watching greta's teams practice in the late 1970s and early 1980s...she used to make the girls cry....saying that they were too fat to stay on the balance beam....lol.....

the mark of a 'good' gymnastics coach!

From what little I've read on Trieber; she sounded 'old-school'!

Have read/heard all of the stories about Béla Károlyi...

Maybe it's a East European/Post-WWII/early Cold War/Soviet Sphere thing!

yes...greta was very interesting...lol...

she was from hungary....and when she spoke publically, she would have this thick hungarian accent...but when you got her privately...or in smaller groups...she spoke almost perfect english.....

but the one thing i remember the most about greta...was the hungarian rum balls that she would make and serve at the annual isu athletic department christmas parties at the arena....wow....lol.....you could get snockered just by inhaling the fumes from them.....lol....

i tell ya...i ought to write a book about my experiences at isu over the years....i could shock a lot of people....lol.....got some great stories.....lol.......

Absolutely!

I'd buy a copy -- not sure if the Admin would enjoy it if they felt it contained a lot of 'pointed fingers' but screw 'em -- they can't complain if attendance/enrollment is down!

If it's broke -- FIX IT!

the people i would write about...arent there anymore.....

i left in 1997.....or was forced out...lol.....by a former sports information director.....so the people there now......wouldn't have to be worried....lol.....
