Sycamore Proud

The Nicks Level
I cannot think of any other day of the year that is more sacred to our nation's Veterans or more important to the citizens of America. We should never forget this day nor allow future generations to go through life without the knowledge of the sacrifice and loss of life our parents and grandparents suffered. There are precious few of the Greatest Generation left--some of you may remember I lost my Dad in September. Their service should never been forgotten; the sands of time should never be allowed to erase their heroic deeds.

I heard today that the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association will be holding its last gathering at Pearl Harbor today. In 1991, the 50th anniversary, they had over 2500 in attendance. They expect 125 today. They are dying or are too old and infirm to make the trip. I hope the loss of the survivors doesn't mean we will lose the significance of their sacrifice.

My grandmother's first cousin lays buried in the Arizona. She joined the marines just a few months after they let women in and served as women did back then state side. She's in a nursing home herself. Alzheimer's .... broken pelvis...etc etc. She keeps moving along. Nearly 93 now. It's hard to believe that generation is passing away so quickly.

My grandfather served on the Nevada that day. If he hadn't survived, I wouldn't be around.
