The unfortunate truth....

When we win this weekend at SIU this will end a season to remember. To look now where we were at the end of the season last year and where we are right now....it's night and day. I predicted us to get 3-4 conference wins this year and we have meet and will exceed that prediction. We have done beyond what I and many have thought we would do this year. We have had allot of good things that have gone our way to get us to this point. We have been competitive in almost all our game (except the WIU...wish we had that one over). We have won on the road!!! We have won the close ones we would have lost the last few years. We have allot of key components returning. I talked about us earning respect this year and we have done that....in our state, conference, and nationally. This year is going to catapult this team into future greatness.

But now for this thread....

I have seen on some of my friends’ facebook statuses and on forums that people are talking about playoffs. And from the words of Coach Mora...."PLAYOFFS?...We're talking about Playoffs?" When we win this weekend that will put us at 7...that's right 7 wins. We will be 5-3 in conference! But the truth is we won't get a playoff spot. Which in no way is a slap in the face to what this team has accomplished this year. We scheduled this year looking for wins. And unfortunately that is what will keep us out of the playoffs. We will have 5 division 1 wins. They will not count the Quincy and St. Joseph wins. I believe if we would have played a lower level FCS team in place of one of those games we would be in. That would have given us 6 and even though 7 division 1 wins have been the benchmark the last few years it isn't the rule. So let’s go kick some Egyptian dog ass this weekend and head into the offseason with a passion and drive that hasn't been at ISU in a long time. :sycamores:

I was reading something at one of the other I-AA websites about the playoffs.....

and it was noted that that are SEVERAL schools that are nationally ranked in the FCS standings right now that DO NOT have seven wins against I-A or I-AA competition. So they are basically in the same boat as the Sycamores.

The question was raised on the website concerned whether the NCAA I-AA selection committee was in a quandry -- do you leave out teams with great records but not with seven wins against I-A or I-AA competition or do you take teams with lesser records but with the "seven win" policy?

It was also noted on the website that the "seven win" policy is not written in stone. It is something to consider, but if the selection committee thinks that a team is truly deserving, then they can still select that particular team.

My feelings on talking about a possible playoff selection is not to get everybody's hopes up. But rather to give the team, the program and the fans something to look forward to, something to shoot for, something to aspire to.

Not making the playoffs one year can be used as a springboard to the next offseason, spring practice and next fall. I've seen it happen before. I well remember working with the baseball program after the 1985 season and sitting there watching the NCAA selection show. We had a great record (57 wins) and didn't get in. A year later, we were in the College World Series.

I agree. I won't complain because I agree with why we did it, but dropping Eastern Illinois is coming back to bite us. With the way they've played this year that could have been a win and it would count for more than a victory over Quincy. Although the Quincy win is nice, if only to bounce back from last year. I do think those early wins set us up for our success at home and in conference. That's why next season's schedule really worries me, but I'll save that for another thread.

i think it was our idea.

Trent said that in the paper and that was how i interpreted it from a friend of mine who is an assoc. AD at EIU.

I just think it could have been our 12th game.

seemed like a smart idea at the time.

I'd heard it was mutual; we were tired of losing the football game, they were tired of the annual MBB thrashing.

The EIU Kittens need to be an annual opponent in all sports.

I agree. Living in charleston my options are to drive to terre haute or just go watch EIU play someone in the OVC like north west tennessee tech a&m. It would be as good a game if i walked to the park and watch high school kids play bball.

I complained to the asst basketball coach (my neighbor) who dealt with scheduling and he said he wanted to play again but im not sure if he was just saying it because that's what i wanted to hear.

Do you guys like all my EIU name dropping.

Had Indiana State known that a bunch of EIU players would flunk....

offseason substance abuse tests, maybe the game wouldn't have been dropped.
