LUCAS NAMED PRAIRIE FARMS / MVC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Sycamore Catcher Led ISU With Six Hits Last Week

ST. LOUIS – Junior catcher Jeremy Lucas led the Indiana State baseball team to a 3-1 record on the diamond last week, including a series win over Dallas Baptist, and has earned the Prairie Farms / Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week award as announced by the league office.

This is the fourth time in the last seven weeks that Lucas has earned the award. Indiana State has claimed the weekly award 11 times this season, as Emily Lahay (women’s soccer, Sept. 7), Shannon Thomas (women’s basketball, Dec. 7 and Feb. 15), Jordan Printy (men’s basketball, Dec. 22), Jeremiah Vaughan (men’s track & field, Jan. 24) and Ernest Rollins (men’s track & field, Feb. 10) have all been honored this season along with Lucas.

Lucas led ISU with six hits last week, hitting .375 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Lucas reached base five times in ISU’s 16-inning win over Valparaiso on Tuesday, April 17, going 2-for-5 with one run scored. The junior catcher topped the roster with four hits over the weekend against Dallas Baptist, as Indiana State won their ninth straight weekend series and snapped the Patriots’ string of seven consecutive series wins. Lucas recorded a hit in all four games last week, extending his hitting streak to a season-high seven games.

In the classroom, Lucas checks in with a 3.54 GPA while majoring in Recreation and Sport Management.

Indiana State continues their 12-game homestand this weekend as the Sycamores host Nebraska-Omaha for a three-game set.
