North Dakota State University - Bison

I wouldnt understand the two of them transitioning to fbs. . isnt NDSU and SDSU head over heels better than both of them??

DII to DI

UND was/is traditionally good in athletics, but they told NDSU to go to hell when they asked them in 2002 to make the move at that time as a travel partner, hence the reason SDSU is in the mix as NDSU went to them next, since then they haven't accomplished much, their Mens and Womens bball teams were in the 340 rpi range all year this year, their football team was beaten AT HOME by a NAIA (non-NCAA affiliated school, lower than DIII). They have a Hockey team that is a traditional Power in the WCHA. They are currently in the GReat West Conference along with USD. NDSU and UND have NO love for each other being the 2 largest Universities in the state and only 75 miles apart Fargo and Grand Forks.

USD in the 80's had a good Football team and even ended up Playing NDSU in the National Championship game (both hailed from the same conference at the time the NCC. UNI and Creighton once played in the NCC also). USD has some Budget issues, but I believe they will come thru just fine and are located in a SMALL town in Southeastern South Dakota named Vermillion, like Brookings where SDSU is its not a huge attraction, which typically has always held a disadvantage to UND and NDSU as they are in Larger cities. SDSU and USD have a long standing in-state rivalry but its nothing compared to NDSU and UND

In Football NDSU has the history and Tradition with the 8 National Championships, 26 Conference titles, SDSU was the Basketball school, USD football, UND Hockey (none of the other Dakota schools have Hockey)
