Hammer

I would switch Rodridguez and McDoanld. Boi was better with the glove than Chad was. Rodriguez was a former shortstop in high school who became a third baseman.

I never saw Zeihen/Sullivan/Johnson play in center, but I'll take Ryan Strausborger on any team that I can build. Great combination of power, speed, defense and clutch hitting.

wow

great one Tom,

I would put dan frey at short over prez? Thats one heck of a team!

Anyone else want to take a stab at this one?

Record books

Most of the guys you will find on the all time record books!

I forgot about the all time hit leader bob zehen, he would be on my team also!

I know nothing about the guys from the 80's but obviously they were pretty good with the success from the teams then. Shoemaker was a blast to watch though. Straugsborger was also fun to watch, some of the catches he made just amazed me with the range he covered.

i can not comment on players b4 i got to terre haute in 2003, but Bronco Lafrentz was one of my favorite players to watch. he hit the longest home run ive ever seen(it was a walk off run rule grandslam against ue in 2009). i really dont think any team or anyone tried to steal on him. he had a cannon behind the plate.

Hammer...you're right....

I put that team together off the top of my head while I was working here at the Colts complex. Danny Frye should be on that team, as should his twin brother Dennis and their older brother Paul.

I have now updated my team as of this morning.

Bob Zeihen and Jimmy Sullivan were the two best defensive center fielders that I ever saw play for the Sycamores.

The exhibition that Jimmy Sullivan put on in the MVC tournament in Carbondale one year was out of this world. He was making sliding and diving catches all over the place. He was outrunning balls hit to straightaway center field and getting to balls in the left and right field power alleys. He charged in a dove for catches on duck snorts over the infield. He was outstanding!!!!!

Bobby Zeihen had the same kind of range defensively and was probably a better offensive player. Great player. He was one of the several Wisconsin area players that Warn recruited to the Sycamores.

And the catch that Ric Johnson made off the fence in the 1995 MVC tournmament in Sprinfield, Illinois was one for the photo albums. He pulled a Bo Jackson as he ran full speed to the center field wall, braced one foot on the wall, jumped up and caught the ball as it was going over the fence. He put so more pressure on the wooden fence that he ended up putting his foot through the outfield wall. The grounds grew there later gave him the pieces of wood for a souvenir.

record books tom

some major players not on here that are all time record holders???

I'm not going by record holders on my all-time team.....

I am going by the best players that I saw and worked with while I worked and attended Indiana State.

Hey Tom

I am off of your team? Man I am disappointed?

I will have to think about my team, I might just make it? HA

Your team does look pretty good though Tom, just left off a couple.

Will post later

Ruck

Great list. I would add Dave Thomas who went 7-0 in '78. He only played two years at ISU, but he was a great pitcher and an even greater person. His next door neighbor in Rhoads Hall, Wally Johnson, led the nation in hitting in '79(?), but I see he's on your list. I had the good fortune to live five doors down. In my time at Rhoads on the same floor, we also had Phil Thatcher, Mike Shannon, Alvin Reynolds, and Howie Johnson, among many others.
