Hypothetical situation.....Greg Wins MVC coach of the year...we win the MVC tourny and go to the big dance or go deep enough in the MVC tourny to go to the NIT. Do you think Greg will get job offers from other big name schools and we are put in the same situation yet again?

Offers? I hope so. Same situation? I sure hope not...don't think we'll get lucky twice in two years.

Offers mean others think he can duplicate what he did this year, and that means we've got a good/great coach. I just hope he wants to stay a Sycamore.

As long as Greg has been here, I would really hope that he feels like he would at least give it a second year here. He was an assistant for who knows how long. He should want to stay a Sycamore. But if he gets a huge offer somewhere, it would probably be hard to turn it down.

I hope he doesn't receive any offers....because if he is getting offers they are probably better than what we are currently paying him...

it takes more than one season of success as a coach to get "big" offers. He wont get any offers better than here unless we make the tournament and win a game and even then I dont think it would be an offer that would be worth jumping at. Big name school dont want a head coach after his first year of being a head coach anywhere. Now if we make the big dance next year or the next he might get a good offer, but I'd hope we start saving some money back now to give him a nice raise when/if that happens.

I'd say you're getting way ahead of yourself. First, all that would be a stretch if it did happen. Don't under-estimate one nice thing about Greg's situation. His wife ALSO works for ISU and has been an integral part of the athletic department for some time. Greg will have loyalty to ISU for hiring him as HC so I doubt he would do that to our university to begin with and I feel his character would not allow him to jump ship after only one season. Almost NO COACH ever leaves after one season because he is not a proven commodity after such a short time either.

I'd say let's worry about beating the Salukis and leave the conjecture for Greg's future to a soothsayer or palm reader.

No doubt. I was trying to say that in my post sorry it didnt come off that way. No way he leaves after one season and it would take allootttt for him to get an offer worth leaving a place where he has roots in two seasons. Im more worried about what brand of beer im going to drink tommorrow night then I am about Lansing leaving after this season.

He has no immediate interest in another job--seriously doubt he would entertain an offer to go somewhere next year. Continued success will invite offers in the future and even then it would have to be something that no coach would turn down. It won't happen and he will be here next year.

No, I don't - in fact, I'll go as far as to say there is absolutely no chance of that. A one-year coach isn't going to get offers for winning the MVC tourney.

Why do people dring lite beers? It is definitely inferior to real beer.

Current Fridge Contents (1 or more bottles of):
Beers for me:
Sam Adams White
Sam Adams Scotch Ale
Sam Adams Noble Pilsner
Sierra Nevada Porter
Java Stout
Beers left over that I thought I'd like:
Breckinridge Avalanche Ale
Three Floyds Alpha King
Company Beer
Bud Light
Coors Light
Just for fun... yes, it is really called "Dirt Cheap" - from St. Louis Liquor store of the same name:
Dirt Cheap
Dirt Cheap Light

Lite beers? Less filling, taste great. (hey, that sounds like it would make a GREAT commercial). I am not a beer connoisseur but I suppose it is what you are used to that keeps you coming back. I NEVER drink artsy-fartsy beers and frankly, if it is not a golden pilsner, it doesn't taste that good to me. I have a Miller-Coors distributor in my family and have access to about anything I want (no Bud obviously) and I have pretty much stuck to Miller Lite and Coors Light and have since the 70's. Hopefully I can still maintain my man card with this admission. :-)

Early in my drinking years, it was my "local" beer that was my beer of choice, and that would be Rolling Rock.

Coor's(Silver Bullet)Light here. Coor's was THE beer to drink when I was stationed in CA back in '66-'67. Remember, back then Coor's was not available East of the Mississippi which made it a rare available commodity to those of us East of the mighty river.

1. Coors
2. Bud
3. Miller
4. Rolling Rock

5. Busch (this is the one us college students end up with the most. Not the greatest but it still gets the job done :wordyo:)

Wasn't Painter at SIU only one year before leaving for Purdue? I hope Lansing stays at ISU, too, but COY award might get him the visibility to get some offers that are too good to pass up. I wouldn't fault his loyalty. After all, all it takes is a couple of suspect losses and his 'loyal' fans on this board turn on him in a heartbeat. I would love to see him stay and build ISU into a perennial MVC contender, but who is the last coach who was wildly successful and stayed in the MVC long-term? Rich Herrin?

A major reason that I have respect for Tony Hinkle is his loyalty to Butler, not to mention his success as a coach of several programs at Butler.

I stand corrected - a good counter example. 13 straight post season appearances definitely counts as wildly successful.
