First-year head coach Rick Heller announced his first recruiting class as head baseball coach at Indiana State University on Wednesday (Nov. 25), with the signing of ten student-athletes in his inaugural class with the Sycamores.

"I'm extremely happy with our first recruiting class," said head coach Heller. "We will graduate eight seniors this year and could lose a couple more to the Major League Baseball draft. Throw in the 11 seniors and two juniors drafted this past spring and we needed to have a large and talented 2010-11 class.

"I believe that this group will set the tone for the future of ISU baseball. Three of our recruiting goals were to improve our overall athleticism, bring in some top of the line pitching and add some middle of the lineup hitters. I feel we achieved those goals. We signed five guys who run 6.6 or 6.8 in the 60. We were also able to sign five pitchers, with three being from the state on Indiana, as well as one of the best infielders in the state from right here in Terre Haute. We also signed several players who can really hit as well.

I like what I'm hearing and seeing about the baseball program.....

I haven't even met Coach Heller in person as of yet, but I like what he's doing with the program. We've talked via emails, but his recruiting class reminds me of a Bob Warn-type of class -- speed, athleticism, kids from smaller towns for the most part, blue collar kids who knows what it's like to work for something.

Great job!

This makes me proud to be going to ISU! I hope we can get back to the MVC title game ASAP! Thanks for the info TOM JAMES!

This is a message for all former Indiana State baseball players....

Please come back to the fold!!!! We need your help!!!!! I know a lot of you were mad, upset, disappointed that Mitch Hannahs wasn't hired to be the new coach. But it's time to move on. I was for Mitch too, but I like Coach Heller. I haven't met him in person as of yet, but we've had some nice conversations via email.

I am asking all former players to come back home and help Coach Heller. Send him an email, give him a call, write him a note and send it in the mail. Whatever you feel comfortable doing.

From what I understand, he is very open to you guys all coming back and meeting with the current players and coaches.

You can only be mad and angry for so long. Holding grudges doesn't help anybody. Let's get behind Coach Heller and his program.

I remember when I worked at Indiana State that we used to have former players come out and help out and work out with the current team. You are welcome to do that again.

So let's forget the past. Let's move on. If anybody has any questions, just email me.

Tom

I knew alot of player from 89 to 96 and are very distant from this program! Why? I dont realy know, but its out there! These guys were the backbone of many great ISU teams! Get the back and you might have something! Why are there no former players coaching at ISU? Im sure there is good coaches that played there that would love to coach at ISU! That would get them over the hump also?? Your thoughts Tom????????:sycamores:

Hammer...there are former ISU baseball players interested in coaching at ISU....

they just have to be given the chance and the opportunity......Mat Reese, former outfielder, is interested....so is Steve Ruckman.....and Stoney Burke....I am sure that there are others......

OK

This might go a long way into getting ISU baseball back on the right track! Plus needed to bring back former players--like you say.
