It's just a part of the campus Master Plan at this point. The city of Terre Haute tried to create a special taxing district last year to help fund $60M in renovations that would have included an actual convention center, but as is typical, the state said no. So, like every other structure at ISU, don't look for anything to actually get done in the next 25+ years.

Did not realize that... Heck $60 million would go a long way toward an indoor sports facility for basketball, football, and track/field. Kill multiple projects with one stone and make everyone happy. Looking at it the way - major savings... and TH should be able to use some tax base to support it. many colleges have this type of multi-use sports facility. Of course - it takes work and preparation while Football is winding down and basketball is ramping up. Like you said - probably 25+ years.. LOL

I like most of this, but I can't see a mulch-use facility as you describe being as good as the HC for hoops. Needs updating? Yes! It's too good as it is now to consider replacing it.

Basketball
ISU athletics enjoys a great deal of affinity for the basketball program. The historic strength of
the program offers a sound foundation upon which to continue to build success and profile. The
Hulman Center will need a major renovation within the planning horizon (next 15-20 years) of this master plan. The
renovations will include all of the building systems, replacement of the failing skin and
the desired inclusion of a modest number of suites.

2009 ISU Master Plan _ pg. 28

As this Master Plan is 5 years old (2009), it now has a ~10-15 year window (2024-2029)
