The Sycamores will be facing a first-year DII school today at 6:00 (ET). On paper, ISU should have an easy time and score in the double-digits. The Prarie Stars of Illinois-Springfield are 2-11 on the season and have given up an average of eight runs per game. Opposing batters are hitting .383. However, it can be hard for players to get up for a non-conference game against what should be an easy opponent. So, we'll have to see what the margin of victory turns out to be.

This evening's starter for ISU is slated to be freshman RHP Kurt Kudrecki (2.45 ERA) who is making his first start. Kudrecki has made three appearances for a total of 3.1 innings pitched. Coach Brian Smiley said on the post-game show Sunday that we'll expect to see most of the pitchers today and tomorrow...so we could see five arms today.

As a team, Illinois-Springfield is hitting .274 this season while their pitching rotation checks in with an 8.12 team ERA. Individually, the Prairie Stars are led by freshman Adam Unes, who brings a .400 (14-for-35) batting average into the game. Unes also leads the team with 11 RBIs and holds the team's only home run of the season to his record. Freshman Matt Cmiel leads UIS with five stolen bases in five attempts this season. Freshman Barry Arnett leads the team with a 2.70 ERA over 10.0 innings and four appearances, earning both of UIS's wins this season. Junior Paul Phillips leads the pitching staff in strikeouts, fanning 18 batters in 24.2 innings.

Twenty-five of Illinois-Springfield's 35 man roster players are freshmen.

Weatherwise, we'll be looking at mostly cloudy skies with a 50/50 chance for thunderstorms during the game. The temperature at gametime should be about 68-degrees with southerly winds at 5-15 mph.

This evening's games will be heard on-line through WISU, through Twitter and through live stats service.

Listened to the Rick Heller show last night. Said Lucas and Browning have some issues with their arms. Not sure how long on either one of them. Ferguson hurt his shoulder on a swing. Dorsett has been injured as well. He didn't say what is wrong. Heilman was injured earlier this year, foot.

Kudrecki will start tonight. Go as long as he can 3-4 innings. Drake will start tomorrow. Game tomorrow against Butler has been moved to 6 p.m. Going to see a lot of pitchers the next two days.

Personally I hate the Johnny whole staff approach but Heller likes it and that's what matters.

Final 13-1 in favor of ISU.

Nice "Practice" game! Don't like the "play down games." Somewhat of a waste of time. More competitive to just play each other. Be nice to be able to travel a bit more or pay to bring better talent into town. Rather be challenged as we will be when the conference season starts.

Rockhurst appears to be another DII.

Brian Smiley Coaches Show:

Kudrecki went six strong innings. Started a little slow but recovered. Retired 12 in a row. Other young pitchers did a nice job. Early on ISU was focused on the pitcher...Walterhouse with a three run homer. 14 hits and 13 runs. We did what we were supposed to do from a hitting standpoint and on the mound. Butler is in tomorrow evening at 6:00 (ET). Finally over .500 at 10-9 on the season. This weekend a good Big 10 (Illinois at Champaign) team but beatable.
