I'm gonna sound like an old fart, but I remember back in the day when Market Square Arena would be full for the State Championship and everybody that wasn't there would be watching on channel 4. It's kinda sad to see all those empty seats at Bankers Life and the fact that outside of the schools playing today not many people care or will be able to tell you Monday who won. Sure seems like there could have been some sort of compromise between the one class system and the 4 class (everyone gets a trophy ) system we have today.

The class system had nothing to do with it. Do you know what the total attendance will be for the 4 games?

Channel 4 used to do a lot more for HS basketball than any channel does now.

Class basketball has most definitely had an affect on attendance for high school basketball. It may not be the only reason, but the biggest reason attendance is down so much. I don't know what the attendance will be for the 4 games today but I bet it will be less than for the 3 games and four teams 20, 30 years ago.

Back when I was in school, basketball was about all we had. There is so much more for people to be interested in now. I think half the families in my area are in FL now on spring break.

My wife is from Anderson, and the attendance in the Wigwam declined before class ball. The schools have now consolidated there and I don't think anyone cares much about HS basketball anymore.

If you want to watch schools like Kokomo and Lafayette win their sectional EVERY year and see the big schools in the final four again, then let's go back to one class. You can take away all of the incentive for small schools to go for a state
championship.
The only ones that benefit from single class are the big schools and the fans, so they can see one cinderella every 15 years.

And if it affects attendance, I don't care.

You do realize it's been 60 years since Milan won the state.

That's my feelings. I don't really want to argue about it. I know there are people on both sides and a lot of HS basketball "purists" would like it to go back. We can always watch "Hoosiers" every year in March.

I'm not saying go back to one class, but I do think there could have been a better middle ground that would have kept the interest at a higher level. And, I definitely agree that there are other factors like more things to do and AAU basketball which is arguably more important to some people. We will never go back to one class basketball and maybe we shouldn't, but there is no denying the facts that attendance has taken a nose dive since the introduction of 4 class basketball. I don't want to get into an argument either, I guess I was just reminiscing a little and disappointed with what has become of Indiana high school basketball.

It is disappointing. I started HS at a very small school, and the small gym was packed. What day those were! Then we consolidated with 2 other small schools and had starters with 3-4 yrs of starting experience. We blew everyone out at the sectional and lost in the regional against the #1 team in the state. Great memories, but I don't think it's that big anymore in a lot of places.
