There was an Athletic Dept. Reception last night in Indpls. Clink was supposed to make an announcement.

I went. No big announcements but some updates. Almost all the coaches spoke. Even though it wasn't specifically a fundraiser some people wrote checks last night that are going to women's programs. Clink mentioned Elevate is at 800k. From what I saw they raised close to, if not a little more than, 10k right then and there on top of some other commitments. Not bad given it was a young alum who kind of threw it all together. Tasty heavy apps were served--Prime 47 does it right.

I had some face time with Mallory--I hadn't met him yet. WOW. He gets it. So humble, funny...just a solid guy. I fully admit I was critical of his hiring and was a huge doubter after his first season. When he spoke he owned that winless season and talked all about how he learned from it. His only problem now is sky high expectations this year (He thinks they'll be preseason Top 20) but he is really humble about it all. I'm now officially a fan. Frankly he deserves to be at a P5 making millions...the dude get it.

We've got some really passionate coaches at ISU. As Boda and others have pointed out for years, they're stymied by historical, geographical, socio-economic, and budgetary issues that many other state schools and similar sized mid-majors don't deal with.

Overall a good night. If they get a few more whales to show at the next one they could probably get double to triple the amount of donations even without asking. Last night showed me Clink and the coaches are doing what needs to be done....get out there and raise money!
