Let's just say that ISU figures it all out, and enrollment explodes. Do you think ISU can handle, or even wants, 20,000 students? Is it even possible, given the higher ed landscape with all the state dollars flowing to IvyTech? Just some food for thought...

Unfortunately, it's not...

possible. The $$ are flowing to Ivy Tech because
a: all of the state legislators that are Ivy Tech employees...
b: Ivy Tech and State are different institutions w/ different audiences, though with overlap.

Does State want 20K... well, if they're some of the best 20K students - why not?!
No, I never see State being as large or larger than ISUM or iu or purdue BUT they could support 12,500 - 15,000 on the current campus; if you increase the faculty, you'll maintain the student/instructor ratio (Currently, a great thing at State).

I don't have a problem w/ State only have ~10K in students; it's the fact that we're not considered a 'selective' school; ergo, parents / teachers / students consider State a 'fall back' vice a 1st choice -- while my experiences are limited in the spectrum of employers; I"ve met few non-State folks who rave about State's academic reputation.

It's a vicious cycle -- but if State is going to be relevant in the 21st century; they need to either grow OR become more selective; I'd prefer more selective w/ some growth; 15K is a great size.

You honestly can't compare the two facilites. Also as far as informal recreation goes in ISU's campus, we still have the Arena running with 6 basketball courts, from what I've heard the best raqueteball courts in the state, and the sauna.

If ISU-E only has three basketball courts for informal rec. that is pretty pathetic and not impressive.
The only thing I took from that article was the picture of the climbing wall which looks better than ours in the arena...but honestly...who cares..

With the current limitations of the campus I would think that 20K would be a bit much. But I do think that 14-15K would be doable. With ISU-M, ISU-E, ISU and Ivy Tech all going after pretty much the same students I am not sure that a whole lot of growth is possible. ISU used to draw well from the Evansville, Chicago, and Ft. Wayne areas, do we even have a hot recruiting area today?

If my memory serve me correctly, Indiana State had an enrollment over 15,000 in the
Vietnam War era of the late 60's and early 70's. The campus was probably smaller at that time as well.

Recruiting area...

Honestly, no -- I don't believe we have a 'hot recruiting area' the FW kids will go to IPFW or ISUm; E'ville kids will go to ISUe, kids from The Region still come but how many are going to iu-northwest, iu-southbend or purdue's regional campus? Indy kids stay at home at go to iupui...
