For the second day in a row, an ISU starting pitcher has had a quality start. Sean Manaea left the game in the top of the seventh with one on and no outs and having thrown more than 100 pitches. Manaea gave up two runs (both earned) on seven hits (all singles), three walks and four strikeouts.
Kurt Kudrecki (who pitched last night as well), came on to get out of the seventh inning with no runs allowed. Devin Moore came in to pitch the eighth with a lead of 6-3 and had a 1-2-3 inning. Moore came back to the hill in the ninth to go for the save...with Dorsett and Hochstedler waiting in the wings if needed. ISU wins. Manaea gets the win and Moore the save. Moore's strongest outing of the season!
Offensively, ISU got off to a fast start in the first scoring four runs on one hit, thanks to two hit batters and a walk. The one hit was a three-run homer by Ryan Walterhouse! They added another run in the second. ISU got an insurance run (to make the score 6-3) in the seventh when Kraemer beat out an infield hit and scored on a sac fly by Ort. Wampler led off the eighth with a single, but that was it. Overall, ISU had ten hits (all singles except for one homer) and three walks and three hit batters.
A great recovery from the Friday night meltdown. Great positioning to win the series tomorrow. DBU will be fighting hard as they are going for their eighth strait series win. Remember, the game tomorrow will start at noon (not the original 1:00 p.m. starting time).
