CLOSE ENCOUNTERS
Indiana State and Missouri State, who combine for just 17 losses so far this season, have kept it close in nearly every game played. Twelve of the 17 setbacks between the Sycamores and Bears have come by just one or two runs.
Indiana State has lost four contests by just one run, while Missouri State has fallen in five one-run games. The Sycamores add one two-run loss, while the Bears have two losses by just two runs.
Five of Indiana State's seven losses have come by twor or fewer runs (.714), while seven of Missouri State's 10 losses have come by two or fewer runs (.700).
While The Sycamores did not get a nod for pitcher or player of the week, they received two honorable mentions:
Jon Hedges (INS) - Hedges led ISU by hitting .474 (9-for-19) at the plate, tallying three hits in two games. Hedges started the week with a 3-for-5 effort at UIC, giving ISU an extra-inning lead with a RBI single in the 12th inning in ISU’s 8-7 victory. The ISU senior went 6-for-14 against Creighton over the weekend, picking up a double and RBI on Friday before driving in the game-winning runs in ISU’s 2-0, 12-inning victory on Saturday. Hedges led ISU with five RBIs, 10 total bases, a .526 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage for the week.
Sean Manaea (INS) - Manaea battled Creighton’s Erik Mattingly pitch-for-pitch on Saturday, tossing nine shutout innings with eight strikeouts while earning a no decision in ISU’s 2-0, 12-inning victory. Manaea worked out of a bases loaded with no outs jam in the first inning, fielding a line-drive before striking out the next two batters. For the game, the ISU sophomore scattered five hits while also picking off two runners on the bases.
