The Sycamores hope to bounce back from a disappointing and demoralizing second game yesterday as they take on UTSA at 12:00 Noon (ET). Weather is expected to be partly cloudy and 59-degrees at game time...warming to the mid-60's. Winds will be picking up from the south at up to 20 miles per hour.

Blake Drake is expected to take the mound for the Trees with Kevin Mann first out of the bullpen, I imagine. Southpaw D.D. Towler makes his first UTSA start.

Here's the link to the Live Stats. It also shows live audio, but according to yesterday's announcer, that may not be the case. We can only hope it is on live audio:

Bases loaded with no outs for Sycs in top of second...with a walk and two singles. Infield fly-out for out #1. Grgurich drove in three runs with what was initially a single that was fumbled by the right fielder so Grgurich ened up at third. It has been ruled a single and a two base error. Two of three runs unearned. Ferrell popped up a bunt that was caught and Grgurich was doubled up at third to end inning. Sycs up 3-0 after first two innings.

Fieser walked in the top of the third. Graham doubled to the left field wall driving in Fieser. ISU up 4-0 in middle of third.

In bottom of third, UTSA's Selsor hit a homer to left to close the lead to 4-1. Winds are 15-20 mph from the southeast blowing out.

In the fourth Liniger and Lucas singled...Grgurich grounded out and advanced the runners to second and third. A sac fly by Ferrell scored Liniger. Strausborger followed with a triple to score Lucas. Indiana State up 6-1 in the middle of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, Taliaferro (who played for Heller last year at Northern Iowa) hit a homer for two runs. That was followed by another UTSA home run by Wood. The homers were on consecutive pitches. Score 6-4. Drake replaced by Kevin Mann after hitting the next batter.

In fifth, ISU loaded the bases but could bring noone home. Mann took care of UTSA in one, two, three fashion to close out the 5th. ISU leads 6-4.

Mann took care of UTSA 1-2-3 again in the sixth. 6-4 at end of 6th.

The Sycs are outhitting UTSA 11-4 after 6...but three UTSA hits were homers!

In top of seventh, Ort walked and Liniger singled...followed by a single from Grgurich to drive in Ort. Wild pitch advances remaining runners to second and third with two outs. Wild pitch scores Liniger. Ferrell doubles to score Grgurich. ISU now leads 9-4 in middle of 7th.

UTSA got the bases loaded for Ryan Hutson, the guy who hit the grand slam yesterday! No outs! Fly ball out to right-center and runners held. Mann drilled Aguilar to force in a run and bringing score to 9-5. Bases loaded double drives in three to bring score to 9-8. Harlan in for Mann with one out in bottom of 7th. Winds have picked up from the south at up to 25-30 mph...blowing from right to left field. Burnam and Fieser walked to start out 8th. Graham lines out to left field on a ball that almost went for extra bases. Great diving catch. Ferguson (PH for Ort) struck out for out number two. Liniger (3 for 4 with three runs so far today) fly-out to right-center for out #3.

In bottom of 8th...first batter reached on a tough grounder to 2nd...error on Grgurich. Harlan replaced by Flores. Sac bunt moved runner to 2nd. Fly-out to center...runner advances to 3rd. Two outs. Fly-out to right field to end inning. Still 9-8 ISU!

To lose 3 of 4 is not good...but not all bad either. This time of the year is to identify weaknesses, access talent and fine tune so that you're ready for the league season. This weekend we faced a lot of left-handed pitching whereas we faced no left-handers in week one. For the second straight week, we saw problems with pitching, particularly with starting pitchers. This was the case at the start of last season and we smoothed things out until they fell apart at the end of the season. We had too many errors and a few mental lapses. Don't write this team off. It has problems, but not fatal flaws. One other difference is the amount of youth. We actually have a couple of freshmen in the field, at the plate and on the mound that are destined to be stand-outs, if not this year, certainly as they progress through the program. With the game against Indiana cancelled for this week, the team captains will need to step up...emotionally uplifting their troops. The troops will need to realize that this weekend has a great silver-lining. Hang loose, have fun and realize that the real season hasn't yet begun. We have the talent to shake things up and prove that we're better than the MVC coaches think. We can be number one two or three...but the puzzle needs to come together over the next couple of weeks.
