A single, a stolen base and a single is all it took to end an 8.5 inning Friday night as Wichita St. walked off with no outs in the bottom of the ninth by a score of 1-0. ISU ace Colin Rea lived up to his billing as he masterfully kept pace with the Shocker's Charlie Lowell for 7.1 innings. It is heartbreaking to lose that way, but hopefully it set the pace for the balance of the weekend... with the hope that we can produce run support.

Today at 3:00 (ET) a couple of lefties face off as ISU's Sean Manaea (4-3, 4.35 ERA) goes up against Brian Flynn (4-3, 4.80 ERA). Last week against Evansville, Manaea worked five innings, giving up five runs on six hits and three walks. He had three K's. ISU went on to lose that 13-inning contest 10-9. Meanwhile, Flynn was roughed up at Creighton, as he worked just 4.1 innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits, two walks and two wild pitches. He had three K's. On the season, Flynn has worked 65.2 innings and has had 60 strikeouts, while giving up a hefty 33 walks. He also has eight wild pitches and seven hit batters. His OBA is a modest .248. He can have control problems!

To gain a victory, Manaea will has to bring his "A" game against what can be a potent offense. Meanwhile, our batters need to bring out the worst in Flynn, getting him rattled in the early going. But, if both pitchers falter early, we could be looking at an offensive battle.

Weatherwise, sunny and windy. Look for a gametime temp of about 60-degrees with northerly winds at 15-25 miles per hour.

Today's game can be heard on WBOW AM-1300, through Twitter and through live stats. NOTE: WBOW's on-line broadcast was not available Friday night, so I listened on a Wichita Station.

ISU followed the EXACT gameplan for success. Lights out pitching again tonight...but great "station-to-station" offense! That's the way this team has to play to win and they did it.

The last time the Shockers were shut out was last year against ISU in Terre Haute in a 2-0 win. ISU pitching got 11 strikeouts.

ISU got 13 hits today. WSU got just five hits today, all singles.

Miera, who was 1 for 18 coming into today, got three singles including a run and RBI.

Our Sycamores are meeting their abilities this weekend on the mound and the bats were more potent than average.

I would say that Manaea will be the MVC's Pitcher of the Week. Let's hope so!

And predictably over on shockernet: we are pathetic, and are a program that can't afford to buy uniforms! Didn't we just put over a million dollars into our stadium with more improvements planned? And I hate to tell them, but we have several uniforms. All of which are better looking than that God awful black and yellow!

Shocker assistant coach says Wichita State's woes started in warm-ups before today's game as Brian Flynn had no command over his strikes. His velocity was lower than normal and his pitches lacked "life." Oddly enough, while his strikes were not well-placed, he gave up no walks. ISU was shut down when the relievers came in for WSU.

He called Colin Rea outstanding last night. As for Manaea, he says the Shocker's should have produced when he started to weaken in the mid-innings.
