LUCAS CLAIMS SECOND STRAIGHT PRAIRIE FARMS / MVC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARD

Junior Jeremy Lucas Hit .438 With Two Home Runs Last Week

ST. LOUIS – For the second straight week and the third time this season, junior Jeremy Lucas has been named the Prairie Farms / Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office.

Lucas hit a pair of home runs last week, going 7-for-16 (.438 batting average) with seven runs batted in and a team-leading eight runs scored. Lucas picked up a hit and a run scored in all five of ISU’s games last week, starting on Tuesday against Illinois-Springfield with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate with four RBIs and two runs scored. The ISU junior made just two trips to the plate, hitting a three-run home run in the first inning before knocking an RBI single in the second.

Lucas tallied one RBI on Saturday in ISU’s 7-3 win over Illinois State, before going 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two RBIs and two runs scored in Sunday’s 11-3 win in the series finale. In the classroom, Lucas carries a 3.54 GPA while majoring in Recreation and Sport Management.

The ISU baseball team travels to Omaha, Neb., this weekend, taking on the Creighton Bluejays over Easter Weekend. Sunday’s series finale can be seen live around the nation on ESPNU and online at ESPN3.com.
