The Nicks Level
The Star published the State Colleges Basketball Preview today covering Ball State, Evansville, IPFW, Indiana State, and Valpo. Mention was made of Valpo's Horizon League championship. There was nothing special about Ball State and IPFW. About the Sycamores: ". . .a team that is bidding for a fourth consecutive postseason bid."

I'm thinking that Billy Taylor, Marty Simmons, Tony Jasick and Bryce Drew would love to be able to say that.

The lack of discussion on the topic of postseason tournaments other than the Big Dance is surprising. There seemed to be plenty of opinions at the end of last season. It would seem that observers, fans and possible recruits seeing the quest for the 4th consecutive postseason appearance would be impressed.

I admit that I do like the sound of Four Consecutive Post Seasons, but I still think we should only accept an NIT or NCAA invitation moving forward...

This would be appropriate IF Indiana State were one of the elite programs that Dance 6 or more years out of 10. Since we are far from that status, I feel we need to go after all the exposure possible. The more the Sycamores gain regional and national exposure, the better chances we have for landing the best talent available. Any PR is better than no PR.

I think it depends upon the circumstances. I can speak only for myself - and it's a layman's opinion at that - but I'm not so sure I wouldn't have skipped postseason play last year (understanding that we played in neither the NIT nor NCAA tournaments). I just thought we should have called it a year after the MVC and started looking toward 2012-13. I might be in the minority, but I know for a fact I'm not the only interested observer who felt that way.

Your position is certainly valid, however, I still feel any postseason opportunity for name recognition is a positive we shouldn't reject.
